That’s all my insurance required. Dr said it’s medically necessary for me to have an erection and that I had tried pills and injections. Not even sure the injections were necessary. I really feel like it has something to do with how well the Dr knows what codes to use and how to explain on the paperwork. Was told by Clavell this past Monday that I should have no issues getting approved for a revision thru same insurance as I had almost 4 years ago when I had mine done. My implant functions perfectly but having issues with herniating resivour and tips of cylinders poking my wife as they are too close to the bottom part of glans.

Are you self-diagnosing that this is a mental issue?

I'm going to agree with other guys that, if you had a functioning hard on until you were 39, this is probably physical.

I had a perfectly fine hard on until I was 32. For years I went along with doctors' assessments that I had a mental problem.

Nope. Turns out I'd damaged my pudendal nerve while on a five-week bicycle tour.

I was never able to make peace with this problem. Pills worked okay for a while, but lost effectiveness over time.

Like other guys have said, do some more digging to uncover the physical problem.

Mind me asking what insurance you have?

I have BLue cross Blue Shield of Illinois. But after talking to them many times about my initial implant they explained that every policy they write for each company is custom and any and all policies can have exclusions or allow some things that another company may denie. So basically BCBS may or may not cover it. I’m 60 now so hopefully this one will last til I retire and then hopefully Medicare will cover any revisions after that.

Interesting question RG3p013. ED is about relationships. It's a relationship problem, or should be. Life is complex. The health issues around ED are an indication of that complexity. Mental and physical. As we age, both these issues can become insurmountable. Hence, the statement 'I should have done it 10 years ago. An implant simplifies just one aspect of life, so, in theory, we can spend more energy on our fulfilling relationships.
It's a great question to add to this already great historical library in FT. Thanks for posting.

Talk to your partner. You can still have powerful intimacy with ED. In some ways, it can be more empowering for BOTH. Talk to your partner and be creative.

Yes, a couple can have a very good sex life even with ED -- assuming they enjoy the same things. But there is a balance between "easier and healthier than an implant", and return of sexual function for PIV. For my wife and I, our sex life was good even during ED. But for us the risk/reward for the implant, with the return of sexual function for PIV, was well worth it. And yes I do wish I had done that years earlier.

Wishful thinking in my opinion... of course when we love each other we find ways to be close no matter the circumstances, and they can open up new perspectives, but having a functional penis on-demand is more than just unlocking new positions. It completely removes the anxiety of performance, which is half of what kills libido in both partners. The ability to not think about your dick every second of every day and just know when you want to get frisky you can chase her around the house with it and shove it in whenever you catch her... spontaneity is not only peace of mind for us but a huge turn on for them.
