Pump jamming

Im wondering if the pump jamming is normal? Sometimes when I pump the bulb will stay deflated and not inflate the cylinders. I have to hold the deflate button and quickly press the bulb until it resets. I would say it happens at least once or twice a week. Should I be worried about this? Will it get worse?

goose1235, do you have a Tenacio pump ? Although very unlikely, have you check whether its on the recall list ? A small number of pumps, that are on a very small list, are affected by the recall. Mine is on the list, but it's not affected.

I face exactly the same problem. Do you hold on to the deflate button while pressing the bulb or do you first press deflate and then try to inflate? Mine at times requires several attempts

I believe this is the so-called “sticky pump” issue that happens with the MS pump. I too deal with it a few times per week. Actually I was at my six week follow up today with my surgeon and mentioned it to him and he basically said this is “normal” with these pumps, just something I will have to deal with. It’s common enough that they put instructions on how to resolve it in the manual you receive after your surgery. And I’m sure it plays into why they developed the new Tenacio pump. So, I guess we just have to live with it and if someday we need revisions, hopefully they will have worked out all the kinks by then.

The manual says you should never hold the deflate button while pumping the inflate bulb. Not sure why but maybe it screws up the valve somehow. Whenever I’ve had the “sticky pump” issue, I squeeze the deflate button while squeezing the shaft to force out any residual fluid. Then, release the deflate button, squeeze the inflate bulb, feel the “pop” and start inflating.
