Re: “I wish I’d done it ten years earlier…”
I wish I had tried another urologist. My original one put me through PRP injections, and high frequency sound treatments for my ED ( all very expensive, no insurance coverage) over a period of years, all the while I was trying to get Cialis with Tri mix to work, which it never really did. Basically my urologist 1) never explained that I had a significant venous leak 2) never offered a penile implant to get me erect again! I should have had my implant done 8 years ago! That said, my decision to get an implant in April was a fantastic choice. Can’t tell you how happy I am!
67 years old. Long term progressive ED. Pills and injections no longer the solution.

With hindsight, Would any of you guys just skipped injections?
43, ED since late 20's, Pills on and off since then increasing strengths with inconsistent results. Now 5mg Cialis daily and either 20mg Cialis or 100mg Viagra
Not sure if it's Psychological or Physiological, long-term use of SSRI's probably hasn't helped

Re: “I wish I’d done it ten years earlier…”
If I knew what I know today, I would have gotten it when I was a teenager. I never had a satisfactory sex life, and that was because of my ED and the lack of confidence that came from it.
Even when pills were invented and I could at least get hard with some degree of confidence, I was still a victim of ED. I feared losing my erection, I didn’t like the side effects, and I had trouble with being spontaneous with pills. I found myself on dates wondering if I might get lucky that night. If I didn’t take a pill mid-date, I then would pull away and it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy. If I didn’t take take a pill I might get lucky, but if I didn’t I would be resentful about suffering side effects for no reason.
For me the transformative power of my implant is the confidence. If you are a guy with a wife or girlfriend who can get hard with a pill or a shot, maybe it’s not that big of a deal. But my implant transformed my life. It wasn’t just the final intervention on a scale of interventions. It was the only thing that cured me of my ED.
Now… I didn’t know what I know now back then! In fact I met with a fancy urologist in my thirties who walked me through all of the options. He described an ipp. But I rejected it at the time because it felt like “too much”, that I would be a freak, I had to have surgery, etc etc. What I really wanted was a pill that worked reliably and had no side effects. He got me to try Levitra. It was better than Viagra, and I left it at that for a while. My married sex life eventually came to an end and mooted the question for some time. Even when I separated and started to look for a solution at 49, I didn’t even contemplate an ipp until I found this site.
By all that I mean… if I got an implant in my teens or my twenties, maybe I would have developed different issues? Like being scared of someone finding out. Or thinking of myself as a freak. Or something.
But knowing what I know now, I wish I could have gotten it when I was 15.

Born 1974. Implanted 5/21/2024. AMS 700 CX 21cm, 3cm RTE. Penoscrotal. Venous leak my whole life. Pills helped, but hated the side effects; worked less as I aged. Skipped injections. Grateful to bionic brotherhood that helped me make this decision.

Yes, and did.

If you’re one of them, I have a question: if you could go back and do it again, what would be the threshold you would use for deciding when to get your implant, as opposed to the one you DID use? Would it have gotten you the implant “ten years earlier”? How would that have impacted your life, besides the obvious?
Yes. I would have gotten the implant sooner.
When I had to start relying on both pills and a cock ring is when I would have tried to get the implant if I could do it over.
It would have spared me years of misery.

Absolutely. I occasionally look at the Injection posts and today when I did it was a bit depressing. Although I was ok with injections when they worked for more than a year, thinking back it seems like a nightmare compared to the implant.

Maybe not skipped, but abbreviated. I would have stopped injections when they started causing orgasm issues. That possible side effect was never communicated with me, and I’m hoping it’s not permanent, but has persisted after getting my implant 10 weeks ago.

Re: “I wish I’d done it ten years earlier…”
I'm writing this as someone yet to get my implant.
I have a history of leaving surgery as a last resort option for far too long, sometimes until the condition becomes life threatening, and usually on the advice of doctors and surgeons.
Based on this history I resolved never to let a condition get to that point again. If surgery is going to be the eventual outcome get it over and move on.
Pills worked for a few years. VED just gives me a very big floppy dick. I considered shock wave but was advised against it.
And as far as injections are concerned, I have never been offered them. Everyone I consulted considered they were never going to be a long term viable solution and moving directly from pills to implant was the correct choice.
I decided an implant is the way to go almost a year ago, but based on the timing of doctors, getting appointments, suitable surgery dates etc. I still have another 2 weeks to wait.
In that year my situation has declined further, so yes, I would rather have had the surgery sooner rather than later.
Would I have done it 10 years ago? If knew then what I know now and what was to come maybe I would.

20 years of ED, initially managed by pills. Increasingly severe BPH, emergency HoLEP prostatectomy 4 years ago. Fixed the prostate but pills just don't work any more. Solution is decided.
Currently booked for surgery Jan 2026.

Re: “I wish I’d done it ten years earlier…”
I wish I had tried Bimix incrementally at its maximum doses until it stopped working before considering an implant.
The implant has reduced my sensitivity, and I am no longer able to orgasm successfully during PIV. I miss this very much, and I feel like a mechanical dildo machine. I am not happy with the quality of pleasure.
I'm also concerned that any future, repeated revisions will carry a higher infection risk, reportedly in the double-digit percentages.
All that said, I hope I can regain my sensitivity, at least by two years post-op. I still love my implant, it's great for masturbation. It remains the best option for me, and given another chance, I would choose it again, even in my teens, if the maximum dose of Bimix had failed.
