I think it is worth the extra effort and expense to have the procedure done by a high volume implant surgeon whose practice is primarily implants. Not a general urology surgery that does an implant from time to time.
If you want to stay more local consider Andrew Kramer out on Cape Cod. https://kramerurology.com/

GoodWood is absolutely on point that it’s best to find a surgeon who specializes in implant surgery and does many a year.
Dr Kramer did mine. He is excellent and my outcome has been well beyond my expectation.
67 years old. Long term progressive ED. Pills and injections no longer the solution.
Implanted 4/4/2025. AMS 700CX 21cm with .5 extenders

Thank you guys. That's exactly what I just did - made an appointment with Dr. Kramer. VA doctor would be the easiest for me because of proximity and zero insurance hustle, but I'm a bit weary going with somebody with zero independently verifiable track record. I talked to one of her post-ops that she gave me and he is happy, but that's different.

I would add that Cape Cod Hospital ( where Kramer does surgery) has an excellent surgery department. You’ll be in great hands all around!

These discussions puzzle me. What is the hesitation to travel to a well reviewed & trained implant dr? At the very least, if staying local. Verify that the dr trained with a known quality dr. Getting a "do over" on a poor surgery is hard to get. They can post almost anything on a web page.
Off topic now. I see that Dr Kramer is at least using some AMS implants, perhaps mostly. This is the dr that almost made Titans popular all by himself. He'd make sure to say the name repeatedly during his YouTube videos. Talk up how "big" everything looked. Back in that time frame it was speculated that was being paid by Coloplast. Maybe those rumors had some substance.

In my case the problem might be insurance. I never tried to go out of VA network before and am not sure how receptive they would be, especially with own doctor, the aforementioned Dr. Greenberg on staff. I discussed it my previous post.
I know for a fact that both brands pay their Patient Advocates. I'm sure they also pay some doctors for them to make it their "preferred brand" or rather pay commission for usage. I was only able to find two doctors in the US with Center of Excellence mark from both brands, well-known Dr. Clavell in Houston and some doctor in Atlanta. I didn't see Dr. Kramer on Coloplast site.
I have an eval appointment with him soon. It's nice to know that he used to be linked to Coloplast. I was under impression that he only installs CX. I hope he at least has some experience with LGX too. I'm tilting in that direction but also have a feeling that LGX is the most difficult one to install.
