Should I get surgery now or wait to see Eid?

Postby macoza » Tue Nov 11, 2025 2:34 pm

I'm scheduled for surgery with a surgeon at Mount Sinai, NYC in 2 weeks. The doctor performs about 50 implants a year. I currently have Healthfirst insurance which covers it. But I'm motivated to switch to Anthem Blue Cross cuz Dr Eid accepts that insurance and I'd want him to perform the surgery ideally.

But for that to happen I need to obtain 'good cause' from the Medicaid office to switch insurance. That will take time. How much time? I don't know. So should I get the surgery now or wait til I get good cause permission to switch insurance will get me surgery with Eid?

Please note that I can't waste time cuz my gf gave me sort of an ultimatum that if I can't please her I'll end up losing her. Her words, not mine.

Since you are asking for a suggestion I wuold say, wait for Eid and leave your GF.
Otherwise look for another high volume surgeon that accepts your current insurance.

High volume is very very important (imo).
That said, there are a lot of them.

Maybe you can find one that works with your insurance.

Look up coloplast center of excellence or look into edin vitality. Edin vitality is a group of high volume surgeons.

If not it may be worth the wait.

I can imagine if anything is not perfect (even temporarily), it would be easy to unconsciously transfer some "blame" to your gf because she rushed you to a low volume surgeon.

It depends on the girlfriend’s hotness.

No. Scratch that. You only have one dick. Don’t take your supercar to a regular Joe mechanic. Girlfriends are plenty and have a generous return policy.

You’re going to rush into a life-altering surgery because your girlfriend threatened to leave you if you don’t? Trust me when I say, with compassion, that she will in the future find some other excuse to leave you. Get out now.

Agreed.

Well, I'm sorry to say @macoza, it's already over. Focus on yourself. You'll have plenty after you're healed. Go to the best Dr. you can afford.

Here's a mental exercise for you:
-You get an infection.
-Your device fails in 2 months.
-There's some issue that requires you to revise your implant within the next 6 months.

All that COULD happen, so given your described scenario, it's already over. Might as well get into this with a clear head and not get rushed into this. There's plenty to research. Spend the next months reading about the procedure so you can actually position yourself to get the best possible surgical outcome.

Hey macoza echoing what others are saying. I’d pump the brakes and start taking the actions you listed to see if you could switch to Eid.

Implant surgery is a serious lever to pull - not saying you don’t need an implant but it’s worth taking the time to make sure it gets done right. Trust me man, I know the frustration and anticipation and wanting to just get it done. I’ve been doing research, following journals here on FT for a long long time even before officially joining the forum. So I totally get wanting to dive in, but above all else 1 it’s most important to set yourself up for success as best as possible. And that honestly takes a little time.

Sorry about your girlfriend giving you an ultimatum, that sucks especially since you’re trying to do something to fix your ED. Might not feel this way right now, but in the end you’ll be better off taking your time and getting all this done right. And a good partner would understand that.
Diagnosed with venous leak after having ED majority of my life. Grateful to have some answers, and considering both MPP and IPP as options.
