Questions about insurance coverage of penile implant surgery

I currently have HealthFirst medicaid and live in NYC. I started working last week and am offered Oxford insurance thorough my employer. I'm scheduled for penile implant surgery in December through HealthFirst. I'm single, not married. I have some questions:

1. Should I ask my job if penile implant surgery is covered through their insurance? If I ask them would I get fired since its an expensive surgery?

2. Since I started working last week, will HealthFirst find out I started working and will they deny my surgery?

3. Has anyone here had Oxford insurance pay for their penile implant surgery in NYC?

You need to call the insurance company to see if it’s covered then make appointment.
Being you already have appointment you may want to see what surgeons office has to say.
Typically when you change employment all benefits are null and void. In your situation I do not know.

If you’re no longer eligible for the HealthFirst policy because you’re working, and you move forward with your surgery, you might be committing insurance fraud and could end up on the hook for the total cost, plus potential criminal charges.

I’d be very careful discussing this on a public forum.

Your employer can’t legally fire you for needing medical treatment. But there are often exclusionary periods where you can’t have major non-emergency procedures covered within 30-90 days of activating a new policy.

Don’t ask your employer, they won’t know and you don’t want to advertise dick surgery to your new employer. Call the Oxford customer service number, and have the procedure code and your policy/member number handy and they should be able to tell you.

I learned this is incredibly easy and a perfect solution to most every medical and insurance issue. There's a bunch of people who work to answer calls. Should be quick. And they all give truthful information and can introduce you to tons of free or helpful benefits you never knew about.
