I've finally made the decision to get implants. Pills and jabs no good for me. I'm off to see Dr Love (Melbourne, Australia) on 27 Nov for initial consultation. From the brief research I've done, implants seem to be very successful. Never thought in a million years I'd be getting this done. I'm 67 and fairly fit. I'm actually quite excited about it, from what I have read. Getting some semblance of a normal sex life would be awesome. The cost of the procedure ($26k AUD), and the fact it is a last resort put me off - but it's now full steam ahead. Dr Love (Great name for a penile implant urologist) seems very experienced and does around 75 implants a year. I contemplated getting it done overseas (much cheaper) but chickened out. I'm still working and will get a loan. The prospect of a more normal and reliable sex life is the driving force.
I stumbled across this forum and would love to hear about other experiences. There's nothing better than hearing about real life experiences, good and bad.
All the best

Welcome to FrankTalk. I hope you find the help you need here. It’s been invaluable as I navigated options/solutions for my ED.
Searching the forum by surgeon name is usually helpful, but when the name is “Love” it becomes problematic. LOL. But searching for the word “Melbourne” is useful and turns up over 100 hits. I’d encourage you to read through those and send PMs (Private messages) to the guys that have first hand experience with Dr Love.
I got a Coloplast Titan implant 7 months ago and I couldn’t be happier. I love this thing. It has changed how I think about my sexual performance. I’m no longer thinking about if I can stay hard. Instead my thoughtsi can focus on the other person and the experience.

Re: Newbie here! First consult coming up
Once I learned about implants as a solution I was full steam ahead as well. The shots became hit or miss as my tissue was scarring up at injection sites. I finally found a urologist who referred me to the best local surgeon in our area. My insurance denied coverage but I still made it happen. Somewhat irresponsibly by paying out of pocket on short notice but I knew I wanted this solution.
16 months later I have no regrets. Even earlier on healing I had no regrets. I lost a tiny bit of size but it's been worth the trade. Besides I was at the end of my rope as injections were becoming problematic & I wanted to use it more than 2x per week. Now I can use it whenever I want at whatever level of hardness & have a big soft dick 24/7.
Luckily recovery for me was easy & I was back to being active within a couple weeks. Not everyone is as lucky in recovery process or even in final result I suppose but I've been very happy with mine & feel very fortunate to be alive at this time of modern science. Not very long ago we would have been stuck broken & some prob would have become serial killers or something over it lol
This board is how I learned about implants even existing and within 3 months of learning about them I had met a surgeon & had one installed, so grateful for this board as well. Good luck mate!

Re: Newbie here! First consult coming up
Thanks for the replies (still figuring out how to reply to people one by one!).
I no longer feel like the last bloke on earth with this depressing/frustrating/embarrassing circus going on downstairs. Reading your stories has me so motivated I’m practically asking, “Where’s the operating table and do they take walk-ins?”
I’m in Perth, Western Australia. Has anyone had their implant done here in Perth?
I’m set on the inflatable option (no disrespect to Team Malleable). I’ve lined up an appointment with Dr Christopher Love in Melbourne on 27 Nov—yes, the other side of bloody Australia, but it’s my pee-pee, so experience matters. I know the surgeon’s skill is the main consideration; the device brand is largely out of my hands, so I’ll cross my fingers.
One thing I’m still chasing: How do I find a Perth urologist who does 30+ implants a year? Any names or tips would be gold.
Recovery doesn’t sound like a party—some say “manageable" while other struggle.
I can’t really talk to anyone in my day-to-day life about this, so this forum is a lifesaver. Thanks for making it feel normal—and even a bit hopeful.

Welcome MissionInflatable! Excellent choice of name
By all accounts Chris Love is an excellent surgeon and possibly the highest volume implanter in Australia. Quite a few members on here have had their implants done by him and most seem happy with the results. He was on my own short list but in the end I decided to get mine done here in Sydney and avoid the travel to Melbourne.
Haha, On the day of my surgery, when they said they were ready for me, I literally jumped off the gurney in the anaesthetic bay and marched straight into theatre I was so excited to be finally getting implanted
Just with regard to the cost I'm assuming you don't have insurance that would cover part of it? Also you can get some back from Medicare. It's not a lot but still worth claiming. My out of pocket cost with insurance was about $8.6k AUD. You can see my cost breakdown here if it's of any help:
https://www.franktalk.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=27226&p=262263&hilit=cost#p262246
Unfortunately I can't help with Perth based surgeons but please feel free to PM me with any other questions if I can help.
