Good luck with your surgery, jwitten567! Sending you good vibes for the best outcome. Some studies suggest 60 days of VED use, with limited benefits afterward. Did Dr. Patel prefer 6 weeks for you? How soon after surgery were you cleared to start VED? Also, were the malleable rods stable during VED use, or did you feel any movement in your corpora? Thanks.

Since you're switching back to AMS, what do you prefer about the inflatable over the malleable?
40. Implanted July 5, 2024, by Dr. Andrew Kramer, Urology Associates of Cape Cod. AMS LGX, 21cm cylinders + 2cm RTEs. Idiopathic "hard flaccid" ED following bacterial infection. Tried pulse waves, Cialis, TRT, even spinal injections. Nada.

Thanks all - obviously very anxious about what's to come.

Dr. Patel wanted me to heal from the infection and go back in as quickly as possible. To balance the healing, he made a case for VED, but in this sort of situation, he said more important to get an inflatable back sooner to mitigate any further loss of length. It does feel a little weird with the vacuum and the malleable but I am being very gentle as recommended, since i need to balance healing from the infection and allowing the incision to heal.

Comparing the malleable with prior inflatable - I think it's different. For me without a stable partner and usually using the implant for self pleasure, i like the idea of pump it up, just feels more natural to me. I only had the malleable for few months, but that was what i didn't like. but malleable is sure rigid and i imagine tartar probably even more so.

Thanks everyone for the support. It really means a lot especially since I can't talk to my non-bionic friends about this issue.

Dr. Patel removed my Genesis Coloplast and placed a new AMS 700 CX 21 without rears. When i had coloplast I had 20 cm without RTE and now got the same size as what I had before the infection/Genesis. Externally, everything actually looks great - minimal bruising, able to pee no problem without burning or blockage, and pain has been surprisingly almost non-existent. I've taken no pain medications at all.

I'm anxious about cycling appointment next week - dr patel said this would feel easier until cycling. He said I had started to form some minor capsule that he had to bust open to place the next implant into the glans to get the best positioning, which may make cycling more uncomfortable over the next few weeks. But he thinks this is very important to avoid any further size loss after infection. So far i'm just super super excited he got the same size implant in - I was prepared be downsized based on our original conversations and others experiences in this forum. It really feels good to have a surgeon in your corner and looking out for your best interests.

Wanted to provide an update for others.

I started cycling 3 weeks after surgery. My goodness, my glans feels like someone dropped hot wax when fully inflated and pretty uncomfortable. That has been improving over last 3 weeks with more cycling and per the doctors protocol. Just saw Dr. Patel for 6 week check-in and overall he was happy and I've been happy. He told me it would be a long recovery so i've been in a different mindset.

Getting infection with the fat transfer is a terrible thing, do nOT do it. I consider myself blessed to be able to get back to where i am now from all of this. I can not thank my doctor enough, he treated me with respect and was always honest with me, even though I got myself into this predicament and felt like an idiot. Don't fly too close to the sun.

Happy to hear that your surgeon is pleased with your 6 week check-up and that you felt well cared for. In my opinion, the one who thinks he has conquered prosthesis infection is the real idiot, not you! Be kind to yourself in this journey. Thank you for sharing your story and I'm glad you are doing well now.
