Calling Type 1 Diabetics with Implants

Postby MrCoffee » Wed May 28, 2025 8:39 am

Hello, are there any type 1 diabetics who have received implants? Or are considering implants? How was your recovery? How do you feel with it when your blood sugar increases or decreases? Would love to hear your thoughts… not sure the right questions to ask….

First consult with Dr. Broghammer at KU Med Aug 4.
47 years old, Type 1 diabetic, ED for 5 years+. Lost size due to PD. Implant sounds excellent but am very nervous and ready to get one. Pills make me feel terrible, no interest in shots.

I am T1 and have had 2 implants now. My A1c was over 7.1 both times, the first implant back in 2019 was my learning curve for surgeons and hospitals. The surgery went well and the healing. My 2nd implant I had a different surgeon but I spoke with him multiple times about my concerns with infection and he told me how he would handle my case as I was worried with infection as well, all turned out okay. That was last June.
