Eid: How soon after surgery is travel home ideal?

For patients of Dr. Eid's, how long after surgery is it best to stay in NYC? I suppose at least the three days until the catheter is removed - I would need to limit hotel expenses but I would want him to check that all is fine and to activate the device. At that point would you have been fine to travel 3-4 hours home by train on your own? I'm thinking the trains are a much smoother and comfortable ride than driving my own car or taking an Uber would be and one can get up if sitting becomes uncomfortable. However I'm worried about being like that in public. Unfortunately I don't have anyone to drive me otherwise I'd just do that with the seat back down.

Eid did my implant on Fri and I flew home on Sunday with no discomfort -- removed the catheter myself and activated myself -- he is the Master.

I think that is going to depend on how you tolerate pain. Usually, the first few days are the worst, but I think Eid uses a nerve block that lasts 2-3 days. Riding the train does sound like a better plan than driving. You are going to need someone to drive you back and forth from the hospital/surgery center to the hotel. Wear a long shirt or jacket to cover up, and who cares what they are looking at anyway. You're going to have a nice bulge there now.

I had my surgery also on Friday, stayed at a hotel and had a Monday morning appointment to have the catheter removed (he told me I did not need to come in on Monday I could remove it myself, but I was too squeamish to do it). I traveled home by car (as passenger) a couple hours travel, no big deal. He has you start cycling that day. Recovery was pretty easy.

Two months before Covid started I had surgery with Dr. Eid on a Tuesday. I was solo so I had to hire a medical chaperone to leave the hospital. I stayed at the Bentley. Wore a jock strap virtually full time for two weeks afterwards, including the train ride home.

Catheter out and cycled in the office on Thursday. Went out for a reuben and a Guinness that evening in a pub on the Upper East Side within walking distance (3 to 4 blocks) of the hotel. Not at all comfortable, but I wanted to get back to having a life ASAP.

Train ride (business class = worth it for 6+ hours worth) on Friday, uncomfortable (about a 5 out of 10 pain) the whole way. Got to my destination train station in a near blizzard, had to dig my car out with my hands and feet in the train station parking lot to get to the driver's door, we had gotten about 3 feet of drifted and packed powder. Not fun, but I survived it.

Have never regretted any of it. Closing in on 5 years of fun and games with my cyber saber.

Dr. Eid is a superb choice - no bruising and minimal swelling, fully functional (but not yet comfortable) in 3 weeks. I still highly recommend Dr. Eid, he is certainly one of the absolute best, as a man and as a surgeon.

After surgery with Dr. Kramer, I drover back to North Carolina from Baltimore when he was there on Saturday. Had surgery on Wed. so not a problem, just moved slow getting in and out of car.

Everyone is different. I also used Dr. Eid nine days ago, my recovery has been very rough. My entire groin area has deep bruises, and my testes are swollen like a grapefruit (it has started to improve the last day or two)… other than to visit his office via Uber I have not left my apartment in nine days. The guys who have had a super easy recovery seem to assume it’s the same for everyone when it is not. Also, these guys had Dr. Eid before his two medical leaves of absence and before he was in his early 70s, so I wonder if that has something to do with my surgery outcome and all the bruising and swelling and even some spotting of blood. I followed the doctor’s recovery instructions to the letter.

Most places require you to have someone to pick you up, they won't be ok with just having a random uber driver do it. How do you guys manage to this on your own?
