Resivor placement after hernia surgery

Postby Rider1400 » Tue May 24, 2022 11:10 am

I’m interested in hearing from anyone who had previously had double hernia repair and is now implanted. Going into surgery I asked my Dr about resivor placement as he had told me it would be under fasciae and would show. I asked him to be sure not to place on my belt line as I was concerned about pressure from pants and belt would irritate or wear on resivor with continued pressure. Also worried it might be uncomfortable. He made a joke about putting some pants on me during surgery and kinda blew me off saying it would be where he always places them if you have hernia repair… my worst fear became reality as soon as I saw myself in the mirror it looks like I have a growth about the size of half a golf ball directly on my pants line!!! Pressure from elastic don’t hurt now after 6 days and it does seem to flatten out a little when wearing anything on it. I never run around nude except at home with just the wife and I around so guess I’m not that concerned with the bulge on pants line appearance. But would love to hear anybody else experiences with this.

Hi Rider1400,
It actually affects the reservoir placement but shouldn't cause any problem. The surgeon needs to know about the hernia repair, and whether a mesh is used or not. He/she can just locate it a little up so that it doesn't interfere with the mesh or the repair.

I've had 5 hernia surgeries and the last 2 were before my implant surgery i had to have done before he would do my implant. My whole groin basically is all mesh, lol. Doc couldn't place reservoir through my sac like normal, so he had to do an incision up high by the left hip to place it and buried it fairly deep between groin and hip. At first i could see and feel it if i had gas or take a dump as it layed some over large intestine, but im 9 months po - op and i cant really notice anymore unless i get a little gassy and it lets me know its still there once and awhile, but nothing i cant tolerate. All is good and jeans with a belt dont bother me, no worries.

I didn’t have hernia repair, but I had RP for prostate removal. I developed some scaring in my lower abdomen and pelvis so surgeon was not able to place reservoir in space of Retzius. He made counter icisionson belt line and placed reservoir under abdominal muscle.
