Reservoir pain +6 weeks

Postby Flip_5 » Wed May 25, 2022 10:03 pm

Anyone else experienced lots of reservoir pain after 6 weeks? For me, pain comes with laughing & standing - so bad it feels like the reservoir will pop out. Sometimes just standing for a while will cause pain.

Does the mesh used to install the reservoir weaken the abdomen long term?

I even don’t know where is my reservoir..
I felt my first one and even now, when drained and retained.

Sorry about your pain. The doctor placed the reservoir on my right side. This is where they are supposed to place it.
The Retzius space is a part of the extraperitoneal space, between the pubic symphysis and the urinary bladder, often referred to as retropubic or antero-vessical, paravesical and pararectal, retropubic space, cave of Retzius, space of Retzius, or Retzius cavity.

I did have pain in that area for a good while but I don’t think to your extent. That area took the longest to heal. I could definitely feel the reservoir when the implant was totally deflated and the reservoir was totally full, to me it felt like a bulge on that side of my lower abdomen.

As far as I know they didn’t place any mesh to repair a hernia where the reservoir is placed.
You have to follow the doctors orders about lifting anything over 5 to 10 pounds. I paid for that a couple times and would have to up my pain medication for several days on a couple occasions.

Everyone is different with how their body heals, give it some time.
I did a lot of ice packs every day for many weeks.
If it’s not getting better after 10 weeks, I would make a follow up with your urologist.

Good Luck!

I am currently 6 weeks and one day into recovery. My right side groin and abdomen where the tube and reservoir are are still sore and they are my biggest issue by far. I do think I over did it in previous weeks though. My actual penis and scrotum are feeling much better and I hope the abdomen will too in the next month. I wish the best for you (and me, lol)

My reservoir is on my left. I 've had diverticulitis for 5 weeks now and i wonder if my reservoir is aggravating it.

I've not heard of that as a complication but that doesn't mean it's not true. I hope your problems with diverticulitis resolves soon.

I felt my reservoir post surgery and for a long time. I can not remember exactly how long but it was for maybe 3 months. Maybe even longer. Not really a pain but pressure and discomfort. I would put a call in to the surgeon if you are having pain at 6 weeks. And as far as I know no mesh was used for my penascrotol surgery.

Good luck.
