Tricare Insurance

Postby RetiredSGM » Fri Feb 04, 2022 12:07 pm

I have been taking EDEX for over 4 years and I hate it I am a retiree and work for the Army. I hate the pain, I hate having to take the shot. It really is just not worth it anymore but it is my only solution at this moment due to total ED due to PTSD in my records. I would like to get the implants put in as soon as possible but I am afraid that Tricare or the VA would not cover the procedure. Has anyone else on here used Tricare or the VA in the past and was covered for a partial amount anyway. Before I contact them I would like some insight first so I know they are no just BS'ing me. Please let me know.

I had my implant done at Lackland Air Force Base, Ambulatory Surgery Center in San Antonio, Texas. I'm retired Air Force and I do use Tri-Care Prime. It was fully covered, I haven't gotten anything in the mail after my surgery on 5 Nov 2021.

I had been using Viagra and Cilias since 2001 at age 45, which worked well till I reached close to 60 and at that time not as reliable. I went in to see the urologist about bladder problems in 2020 and I was scheduled for Rezum procedure for benign enlarged prostrate. After the procedure May 2021, I had total ED, nothing would work. Major Barney had already approached me about doing an implant before I had the Rezum procedure. I had to wait for the prostate to heal before I could have the implant done. They didn't make me go through any other ED protocols to help with ED, like muse or shots.

Are you retired from a branch of service?

You might be like my brother who is also retired Air Force but lives in an area where there are no base hospitals. I forget what type of Tri-Care he uses, but he uses a private doctor rather that any military facility. I think he does have to get a referral to see a urologist.

I know you can probably have it done at a VA Hospital, but for me that was a last resort.

Brooke Army Medical Center, here in San Antonio is a joint base facility and has all military branches, my urologist is Major Shane Barney. He used Boston Scientific AMS products but there are other doctors at Brooke's that use Coloplast products but I didn't know that until after my surgery.

I'm not sure I would have had a choice but from what I've read on Frank Talk a lot of guys are more satisfied with Coloplast Titan XL.

PM me if you want to talk further,

I’m retired Navy. Tricare prime paid for my implant. If you are not near a military base you have to get a referral from your primary care manager. I looked for a urologist who were in network and requested a referral. I used Ams and Coloplast website to search for implant surgeons my area. After saw urologist and it was decided a implant was needed they submitted all the paperwork and got everything approved
