Arthritis sucks. Price we pay for 65 years of being hyperactive and doing everything myself I guess. I refuse to let it slow me down.
Here’s how I’ve dealt with pumping. Might not work for everyone. It works really well for me.
I use thumb and forefinger (index finger) of left hand. I sort of cradle the bulb with them, like the thumb and forefinger were a set of vice grips or pair of pliers. I bend that first joint of forefinger just enough to provide the bulb a place to seat itself. I hold the bulb tightly enough between thumb and forefinger to be able to pull it away just a little so tubing, nuts, etc are not in the way.
I then use entire right hand to squeeze the thumb and forefinger, sort of creating a scissors effect. It’s not hard to establish a good rhythm. I’ve never pumped til it won’t pump anymore, although the bulb does get harder and harder as I increase pressure within the cylinders.
At about 65-75 little squeezes I am rock hard and have an angle that most 18 year olds would be happy with.
