Question, why do some of you write "I wished I did the operation sooner"?

Postby frwmw1 » Sun Oct 17, 2021 4:02 am

I occasionally read people here comment, after they were had the implant operation, that they wished they had done it sooner.

And quite often I see they are in the 60+ year range, so I ask, is it the case that you've had to wait due to insurance reasons? And why did you feel that you wished you did it sooner? Is it because, for example, your wives have gone through menopause and are less interested?

The reason I ask, is because during my conversation with my Urologist, he commented that a concern for him is my age, as an implant will not last my lifetime, however I commented that my wife may enter menopause in the coming decade and he nodded his head, as if to indicate that this was a good argument, and so I wondered if he had seen a lot of regret regarding this, with patients wishing they had done it earlier, however I didn't get to ask.

My wife's libido does worry me, we have had a dead bedroom before, interestingly the injection therapy has turned this around amazingly, which really goes to show the importance of treating ED for female satisfaction as well.

Health Insurance had nothing to do with my decision to get the implant, I did it for my mental health. A RP left me with severe ed. After years of trying pills and injections without any real and ongoing success depression set in.
I've got a supportive partner but even without, I would have proceeded alone. As a man if you can't attain an erection life gets very depressing... I waited far too long between RP surgery and being implanted.

Hello. I'm one of those who "Wish I had done it sooner " people. A LOT .sooner. But my reason was mainly because I hadn't really ever heard of an implant. Pills did Simi ok and the wife's early losing lack of interest in sex, I never seemed to have much need in finding anything else. But when erections, for the most part stopped, I needed to do something. Even though wife's interest by this time was gone, I needed it for me. There is just something about being able to have an erection when you want/need that is mentally satisfying. And I am extremely glad for FT for letting me know about implants. If I would have sooner maybe sex would still be there, maybe not, but the mental uplift would and that means maybe even more. It is the best thing I've given myself in years and years. I'd do it again if I had to.

Reasons may vary, but the fact is being able to have your sex life back, moving from dark to light. Many of us didn't know about the implant or the idea seemed weird. When you use your new tool with your partner, and remember the miserable days and nights, you both just wish you got this sooner.

Sorry to be blunt but what kind of a poor urologist uses implant lifespan and age as an argument for not getting one.

First of all, what are you meant to do, live the best years of your life with ED?

Secondly, has he not heard of the concept of replacement?!
37, mild to moderate ED since age 21, 3 Dopplers - 1 result VL & 3 later results 'no physical problem', dependent on cialis (efficacy now waning), overcame Lymophoma at age 26, ED causing immense/profound psychological distress. Considering implant.

A simple, honest question deserves-demands- an equally simple and honest answer.

I wish I had implanted at least ten years earlier, maybe more.

The difference is erection quality and sexual satisfaction.

The difference, for me, between pills and shots and trying to achieve heroic levels of stimulation to keep a 75% erection and being implanted and having a 100% hard dick is like the difference between chicken shit and chicken salad.

I’ve heard arguments pro and con. I’ve listened to them. That might have been one reason I kind of dragged my feet. Also I did respond to pills plus shots. Not 100%, but I did respond. But I don’t whine, cry over spilt milk, and regret is a waste of an emotion.

You know, come to think of it, how you ended up with ED might really influence how a guy responds to his implant. Someone who never had issues, and then suddenly got hit with ED, and can remember sex with a hard dick and no pharmaceutical assistance is liable to have a way different view than someone like me who put up a fight against ED before he even knew he had ED.

We are all different. Don’t let the fact that if I were like Cher and could turn back time I would have implanted at age 25 be your guide. Make up your own mind. If you aren’t ready for it, your outcome is not likely to mirror mine.

I waited almost 4 years to get the implant because of NHS delay nonsense.
I wish I had got it sooner, because it is wonderful.

I am 34.

I waited too long and lost a lot of size by not getting erections in addition to having an incredible sex life with the implant.

2 reasons for me. Both have been already referred to. The first is that I was really in a bad place and felt less than a whole person because of my ED. It was a big heavy cloud that I was moving in and I was grumpy. Now I am whole again. And that cloud is gone. My whole life is better.

Second is that ED causes size loss. This can be mostly eliminated with VED therapy and other stretching. But in a lot of cases this is not done until prior to surgery if at all.

The reason I waited so long is because I was in a bad sexless marriage when my ED started. Then it took more years for that marriage to end and for me to get to where I wanted to be whole again and had the money to spend on this.
