When can I start exercising and resuming sex?

Postby Jonarr » Tue Sep 07, 2021 6:48 pm

Hi men, just saw the consultant 4 weeks post op. Apparently all is going well on the recovery front and I’ve been given the go ahead to start cycling. The doc says I can’t resume sexual activity until 8 weeks post op and can’t lift weights in the gym until the 3 month mark or I risk getting a hernia. I was a fairly straightforward patient, no prior surgery and it feels like I’m being told to wait longer than other guys on FT. One doesn’t like to go against doctors advice, but is my guy being excessively risk averse? He’s not a high volume implanter more of a general urologist. My device is the zephyr 3 piece.
Any thoughts on this?

I cannot say if your surgeon is being overcautious, but remember this: He made the cuts and the stitches which exercise would be stressing. If he saw weakness in your internal structures, he SHOULD be cautious.

Are you a power lifter? THAT might cause me to lay off even longer. At 8 weeks, resuming exercises like you would as a beginning weightlifter or for general exercise should not be dangerous. But you REALLY don't want a short-term (and 8 weeks is still short-term) impatience to imperil your long-term sexual (or exercising) life.

Maybe I am excessively risk averse. But weigh the low-risk/high consequence scales carefully.

I second this. As an amateur meathead, I look almost unrecognizable today, 4 weeks post-op, than I did last year. I've just been cleared to use light-weights with no core contraction. As much as I miss my physique, in absolutely no way am I going to do something stupid to mess this surgery up. I'm not sure about you, but I absolutely do not want to re-do this shit anytime soon. I hated this surgery and the recovery was not comfortable. I'll take being slightly skinnier temporarily with a functional dick rather than rushing this too soon. That said, I was cleared for the gym, so perhaps ask your doc specifically what type of exercises you might be able to do. Best of luck with the recovery.

I'm 4 weeks post op, and I'm only cleared to do exercises that don't require a core contraction, and even then, only with light weights. So, I've just been doing machines/exercises that allow me to isolate a single muscle and it seems to be limiting stress on my incisions. As for the sex aspect, my surgeon wasn't super clear on that, but I feel good enough to partake right now.
