Questions to ask

Postby Blah1109 » Tue Mar 16, 2021 12:27 pm

Sorry for posting so many stuff on here but I would like to know what kind of questions did you ask your doctor about the implant when you first saw them or any general questions you asked him

#1 - How many implant procedures have they done in the past year?
#2 - Infection rate?
#3 - What type/brand of implants do they use?
#4 - Insurance coverage/out-of-pocket cost?
A good start. you'll have more once you do research.
PM me any time,

Wish I knew all the right questions before I had my implant. I went in blind, but these are questions I'd ask now.

#1- How many of these have you done in the past 2 years?
#2- Will you be able to retain my size and girth?
#3- Where will the surgery be done? Out-patient or hospital with an overnight stay.
#4- Which product do you use? AMS, Coloplast, etc.
#5- If I want a specific brand will you allow that?
#6- How much will insurance cover? And what's my cost?

My surgery was an out-patient basis. It was tough coming home with a catheter and a drainage bag. I had to remove those myself the next day. Not fun. If you stay overnight the nurses should remove all that before you go home.

Good luck on your decision.

There is no way I would remove a cath myself! This to me is negligence. I had my implant and had an overnight stay in hospital. I did not have to pay a cent out of pocket. I had Medicare as primary and a secondary insurance. I would not do anything like remove a cath myself. Married to @ nurse she says one can hurt themselves if not done correctly. Cleanliness has to be paramount when removing this cath.

Questions to ask your surgeon!

I worked for a week on my list of questions for my surgeon. I had three typed written pages of questions. My doctor was impressed. He said I had set a new record for the number of questions for him! He answered every question I had. He was great and my experience could not have been better. It was like my best bro was doing my surgery. He was well aware that most guys dicks are their pride and joy and they guard their dicks with their lives. This was the thing that made me feel most comfortable with my doc doing my surgery. I even ask him if their were ways that he could make my cock bigger. He smiled and said I’ve never had a guy come in and ask for a shorter dick! He said he definitely pushed the envelope where he could! He was a guys doctor. Everything worked out for me with no surprises. Over a year later everything works perfect and i have my original length back. We guys love our dicks. So happy my doctor understood the psychology behind this procedure. Very happy with my outcome.

After my UroLift procedure, my doc was going to have me come in the next day so he could remove my catheter, but I told him that I had Foley cath'ed myself on several occasions and had the syringes necessary and he gave me the option to do it at home if I chose to.

After my IPP implant, the nurse removed my cath the day I was released from the hospital (the day after surgery). I even gave her pointers on the most pain-free way to remove a Foley catheter and she thanked me for the info, stating that she'd done them for five years and had never heard that fully aspirating the balloon instead of letting it deflate naturally could cause wrinkles in the balloon that could cause abrasions and pain to the urethra.

I would ask if the doctor did revisions or replacement surgeries. These are more difficult and will give you an idea of the doctors skill level. You can ask "if there is a failure will you replace the device or do you send me somewhere else." The somewhere else would be my next place to look.

And ask about activation time. There is a paper that showed size loss pre vs. post op is related to long waits to activate or start cycling. For example my local guy who I did not use said I would have at least one inch size loss pre vs. post op and it would be 8 weeks post op before I would be activated or start cycling. A doctor can say anything he wants so the secret is to ask questions he will answer truthfully. So just ask how long after surgery will I start cycling. If he says 8 weeks then most likely you will have the "Coffin" effect indicated in the paper and size loss pre vs. post op. Best results are with a week + or - but 4 weeks or less is much easier to find. A lot are 6 or 8 weeks. I had to wait a few years and pay out of pocket for my surgeon but some are not able to. So you may not have a doctor that does not accept size loss available to you the same as I was. Some men have really good results with some size loss. And really enjoy the on demand as long as they like sex. So this is an option also.

Good luck in your search.

newbie443, is this (are these) the paper(s) you mention?

Example:

This article refers to the differences that early activation (EA) vs no early activation (NEA) of the inflatable prosthesis
Title" Pseudo-capsule “coffin” effect: How to prevent penile retraction after implant of three-piece inflatable prosthesis
Authors: Enrico Caraceni, Lilia Utizi, Giovanni Angelozzi; Department of Urology, Civitanova Marche Hospital, Italy.
Short Summary: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25017596
Longer summary: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25017596
with this sentence: "The result is a penis bigger in flaccid state but smaller in erect phase, when early activation is not performed"

This article was obviously translated from the original Italian, so there may be some grammar issues to overlook.

And this thread might be of interest: "Over what timespan does Scar Tissue form post-op? (And can it be reversed)?"

Yes that is the one. And this paper shows VED use post op to do the same thing but all men had early activation so I am not sure that the VED use was what caused this or if it was early activation. https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/d88 ... action.pdf
I do think that VED use post op is faster than cycling alone to restore size after surgery. I had a problem with my first surgery and cannot use a VED due to pain and risk of really hurting something but I had gains out past a year. If I could of and would have used VED post op those gains would have been much quicker I think. And I might have even seen a small bit more.
