Just for laughs, I asked my surgeon about putting an AMS on one side and a Titan on the other. This decision absolutely requires an in-person physical examination by a high volume dedicated implanter. They need to assess your anatomy and walk you through the pros and cons of each option for you. Both devices are extremely robust and indestructible, but the right choice is anatomy based and also depends on surgeon experience for that brand.

I recommend getting second opinions from other surgeons.

It seems inconceivable that your current doctor works with both implant brands yet didn’t review the pros and cons of each device with you, or offer a recommendation on which implant would best suit your anatomy after examining you.

I assume you have titan. I'm leaning towards AMS cuz from what I've read its longer than titan.

No. It doesn’t matter what the implant size is. Your final size will be based of what you have for cavernosal space, not the size of the implant. In addition your information is wrong. AMS implants size up to 24cm, the Titan goes up to 28cm. But again none of that matters if your cavernosal space is 18cm total.

Hi elbowroom,

Appreciate the needed feedback. I always thought AMS was longer than Titan. Weird.

Would you then tell me what your opinion on both is? Looking forward, dude.

I think they’re both great. Personally I think the CX is better than the LGX, but that’s just opinion and many love the LGX. CX vs Titan is a toss-up. Both have great rigidity, Titan might be slightly better there, but not functionally so. CX will give a more natural flaccid look and the Titan feels a little rubbery or crinkly when flaccid.

All the major implants are great, you just have to decide which aspects are most important to you. I got a Titan because I needed 28cm and that’s the only option without RTEs at that length. My current experience is that if I had a choice I would have still chosen the Titan, it’s working out well for me.

Whatever you decide, make sure you’re working with a dedicated implanter. These high-volume implanters see every anatomy, every brand, every complication, and they usually have a very good feel for which device will fit your body, your goals, and your lifestyle. Be totally open with him about what matters most to you and then ask him directly:

“Given my situation, what would you choose if you were in my shoes?”
“Which implant do you think gives me the best overall outcome long term, and why?”

Once you’ve found someone who does a lot of these and you feel comfortable with their answers, lean into their experience and trust their recommendations. Picking the right surgeon and following his best judgment for your case is more important than chasing any specific brand or model you read about online! Just my 2 cents.

To me, it's really weird that your doctor wouldn't make a recommendation. Before my first visit, I was researching AMS versus Coloplast, mostly here on FrankTalk. I had a good idea of various pros and cons. I was going back and forth between pump size vs cylinder thickness vs flaccid quality, etc., but then when I met with my doctor, high volume who also does both, he said, "For you, I recommend Coloplast." I had studied enough to know that either would be fine, and my philosophy is that the doctor knows better than me.

I would say, push him a little. Surely he has an opinion. If not, flip a coin. Both are good. Neither is perfect.

Just a thought. Has anyone looked into revision brand swapping by implantees? I went from an AMS LGX to a Titan and though the Titan only lasted two years I stayed with the Coloplast product for my next revision which gave me my current unit. Heaven willing this one will be faithfully working for many years to come. If not, at that time I would strongly consider a CX but as it stands,(3 years and counting), I believe that I’ll probably stay with Titans until…
My recall is definitely not what it used to be but to my recollection of over a decade here, if I had to make a guess as to the answer to my fist question I would guess that more go from the AMS product to the Titan than visa versa.
Thoughts? Or even better, does anyone have the figures?

Why did you get a revision to the Titan? What went wrong?

After six years of use one night I fell asleep inside of my wife. When I woke up the next morning my right cylinder was deflated. I cycled it several times to reveal that I had sprung a leak and my implant was broken and flat. My reason for changing was that with my first implant I was concerned about losing length but after years of cycling and use while being extremely close to my natural length I had lost an inch of girth. For the revision I was much less concerned about my length and wanted to get some girth back. You see the implant was very hard at the tips and before the implant this wasn’t an issue but post implant was something that I had to be mindful of so as not to hurt the wife. For this reason length became less of a driving issue for us.
Now I’m very thankful to have the extra half of an inch of girth from the Titan and it’s even filled out the base of my corpora like my natural erection was which the LGX did not. So while I list as my girth 5.5 inches, the bottom almost two inches of my base is 6.5, 6.75 inches around if I put on a cock ring.
I’d trade a quarter of an inch in length for a half an inch in girth pretty much any day, ladies like the thickness.

t.

This is strange... I called my doctor's secretary about setting up an appointment to see him. But she told me that he's on leave or vacation until Jan 7th, a day right before my surgery and we even haven't discussed implant type as in AMS or Titan!

The secretary then offered a video call with hm on Jan 7th, again, the day before my surgery. She said its the only day he has available to talk. Again, this is a day BEFORE my surgery and I need to talk to ask him several questions before the surgery.

This is getting very bizarre and I don't like it. Let me know wat you think.. thanks!

.

I think that if you chose a good doctor, then you should trust them. Honestly, there are pros and cons between AMS and Titan, so it's not like they are identical, but both are good, and if you and the doctor didn't talk about it, then I think you should trust him. It may be that he only works with one company. Some docs do. Or it may be that he already has an idea which makes the most sense for you.

For me, the bigger concern would be who your doc will be if he's leaving the hospital. Who will do your followups? If there's a problem, who will help you? Ideally, everything goes perfectly and you don't need a revision for 20 years, but I'm a believer in insurance and backup plans.

My doc implants both devices. Are you saying docs can actually represent and work for one company even if they implant with both devices?

.

Some surgeons only like one company (I think Eid only uses Coloplast, for example), and some do both but have a preference or bias toward one manufacturer (Hakky does both, but has a slight preference for Coloplast). Others like Clavell are device-agnostic.

Like everybody else, surgeons have biases and preferences. None of that is bad, but you should do your research and know your surgeon’s preferences going in so you can objectively evaluate their recommendations.
