Fallout from New England Compounding disaster has started

Postby JimStars » Fri May 03, 2013 10:32 pm

In Massachusetts at least, the majority of compounding pharmacies are scrambling to comply with state regulations that are being strictly enforced now. My own compounder is not filling compounding prescriptions for at least another 30 days while they construct a compliant sterile room etc. I am glad I called about a Trimix refill before I ran out completely -- although I am thinking now that they should have called or mailed all of their customers to let them know.

Other states may follow? Some of this is for the better, but I am feeling that the cost of Trimix is going to skyrocket to 'cover enforced regulatory costs'. Will see about that in a month or so.

My mixologist's room appears to be extreamly steril. they where masks, bunny suits, booties, full head gear. there seems to be a positive vent system at work.

Kats,

My compounding Pharmacist is an Old School kind of guy ... must be in his late 60s or beyond.

I am sure he was not happy about retrofitting his old shop. Have not had to go back yet tho to see what they did -- still using up my last batch.

Beachcamp,

Hey it looks like I might have to take your offer up for Johnson's.

I just called my own compunder in Worcester and the gal there said it would be **another** 2 months at least before they were back to compounding Trimix. Did not get a reason for the further delay (Three months ago they said it would be another month).

Luckily I have my stash of PGE-1 to keep me going if I want -- but it does ache a little compared to good ol Trimix.

My pharmacist did mention Johnson's way back -- but also that Johnson's was being overwhelmed at that time.

I might just go with Mailorder from someplace out of state and save time and gas.

I wonder if that's why my pharmacy gives me a vial of dry ingredients and a vial of sodium chloride.
I have to mix them myself prior to using it. A mixed vial lasts almost a month.
I mix them using a syringe they supply and the stuff is never in the open air.
