Trimix gone bad?

Postby dirtbaggin » Fri Nov 03, 2023 11:11 am

I got my first Rx for Trimix 6 weeks ago from this random men’s health clinic. I now know they charged me WAY too much, but anyway. I’ve kept it refrigerated, not frozen, and traveled with the vial a couple times where it probably got near room temp. It was working fabulously and I had dialed into my ideal dose at between 5-10 units to get 2-4 hours of rock solid erection, which is what I was looking for.

I’ve now gone 3 times in a row where this dose either has zero effect or a modest effect. I use an auto injector and same technique that produced good results before. I’m thinking this vial is toast. Would you agree?

I plan to refill from Olympia and have read a bunch of posts here about freezing over refrigeration.

I’ll probably try 20-units with this batch to see what that does but I’m bummed about losing more than half a vial of overly expensive Trimix. Any thoughts appreciated.

Of the three ingredients of standard tri-mix, 2 of the ingredients appear to be fairly stable and should have survived well under those conditions. The third ingredient, alprostadil (PGE1 or prostaglandin E-1) is not nearly so stable and will deteriorate fairly rapidly when not frozen. If the effects of your mix were based largely on the alprostadil then it's degradation will have a negative effect on it's potency. Alprostadil can be a minor component in some tri-mix formulas and a major ingredient in others. I use straight alprostadil mono-mix and always keep it frozen.

You could also be having misses or partial misses due to your injection technique. I have my methods of assuring my injection will be successful but they don't really apply to the most common auto-injectors. And I have no experience with auto-injectors. I honestly don't understand how the auto-injectors could work well but they obviously do for some guys.

It does take awhile for some guys to get injections perfected. Don't lose hope too quickly.

Thanks for the input. They told me my mix was "Super Trimix" and that's what the vial says on it, and it says expires 11/2024 (!) and to keep refrigerated. The mix they told me was 150mg papaverine/10mg phentolamine/100mcg prostaglandin. I wonder if I might abandon the auto injector and learn to inject with the syringe. I'll probably ask Olympia when I contact them about this.

When I was injecting and using an autoinjector sometimes it didn't work, sometimes it did. Always tried to use the same area that worked the last time. I really think the autoinjector didn't push the needle in as deep every time. As my ED got worse and my dose to get any effect got ridiculously high, I gave up the injections.

It sounds like a 30-2-20per ml mix. I'm assuming it is a 5ml vial and the ingredients were listed as per 5ml. I wonder why they started you on that mix as opposed to a normal starter mix. Of course mixes do get a lot stronger than that. I'd suggest you try to learn to inject manually.

They started me on that because my in-office test was with the normal mix at 20-units and it only lasted about 45-min. Of course then he guided me to use 20-units of the "super" mix and when I did I was hard for 4+ hours, took Sudafed, had a hard time getting it down, same experience with 15-units, eventually landed on ~7-units... until this latest 3 experiences when that did almost nothing. Thanks for the advice on learning to inject manually.

Agree with bldolnk's points. If the ingredients are per ml, that's a much stronger mix than I was prescribed. If per 5ml, it's close to mine.

I've used 6-month-old Trimix kept in the refrigerator at 40F(4C), with no drop in effectiveness. I've never considered freezing it. I've used Trimix on trips which warmed up to room temperature for three or four days, with no decrease in effectiveness.

I prefer to inject manually because I can feel the progress of the needle into the corpus, or not, and I can tell when it's in the corpus. It's tricky admittedly and takes a lot of practice. After years I have a 90% success rate.

My last prescription ended up on the top shelf of the fridge when I cleaned out the freezer and then I forgot to put it back in the freezer for a few weeks. Found it and froze it and it seems to be good. I have noticed in the past that as it gets close to the expiration date it doesn't seem to be as effective. But by then it's been in and out of the freezer and maybe even travelled a few times so I'm not 100% sure.
