What to do if the injections dont work as well as before

Postby Ahknaten » Tue Oct 23, 2012 7:21 pm

I have this trouble my prostaglandin has gradually diminished in effectiveness.

I asked my urologist and he said a malleable rod implant.

Throughtout my research if a patient has significant penile fibrosis a malleable rod is recommended.

Ive been injecting with prostaglandin E1 for 15 years and penile fibrosis can happen with that line of therapy.

has anyone had a simular experience? any experience with malleable rods?

I havnt read much about them on here, it could be because they arent used as much perhaps? I dont know, perhaps they are but it seems to be a lot less common than the updated implants. Is there any reason that wasnt a suggestion, or isn t an option in your case?

Ahknatin, I have been injecting for a little over a year without any problems; however, I would appreciate information on the progression of your fibrosis and whether it was directly related to your injections.

I'm not sure but wasn't one of the issues with prostoglandin the risk of fibrosis so they use it as one of 3 ingredients in trimix?

My understanding is the exact opposite; Prostaglandin, otherwise known as PGE-1 or Alprostadil, is less likely to cause fibrosis and priaprism but can cause pain after injection in some men (i am one of the lucky ones not affected). PGE-1 is the sole active ingredient in both Caverject and Edex penile injections. These are the onlt intracavernosal injections available in the UK.
80 year old Type2 diabetic, long term ED, pills then injections PGE1. After 4 years they became less effective. Implanted 20/3/2018 by NHS. AMS 700 CX 15+4 cm with MS pump. Never had any significant pain. Still working perfectly and used regularly.

BlueW,

Yes that is also my understanding. PGE-1 is the least likely to promote fibrosis. But, it must be easy to get mis-informed. I asked my Uro on last visit if I should be concerned about fibrosis and he dismissed it quickly by saying that Trimix ingredient Papaverine helps prevent fibrosis! (Let's state right here that is not the case -- Papaverine contributes MORE to fibrosis -- if you are prone to it -- which most people are not). So, he can write great prescriptions but I won't depend om him for any useful injection info!
