Before RP I didn't do anything to enhance the sexual experience. I didn't need it although in retrospect I probably missed out. Rings have resulted is some play not previously experienced. Actually some manscaping helped there too.
I discovered rings while trying to perfect my injection dose and technique. After the RP I'd lost a good bit of sensitivity contributing to anorgasmia. Initially I had some ache from larger doses of alprostadil which I also believed contributed to anorgasmia and initially I didn't respond as well to alprostadil. As I got farther away from my RP surgery I responded somewhat better. I never did respond well to pills. They didn't result in any erection at all. They still don't but my response to injections did improve. I obviously have considerable nerve damage from the RP surgery although it was supposedly nerve sparing. Prior to the RP I didn't really have any major ED issues.
Anyhow, I started playing with the rings to hopefully boost my injection response, which I found it does do. I went through a fair number of rings before I found the ones that worked well for me. I also discovered I liked the rings and more importantly I discovered my wife liked the rings. Although she doesn't like them if they're too thick.
So no, I didn't start using the rings only after the injections started losing potency. They did allow me to use less injection meds. I have not increased my dosage over time. I actually reduced it from my initial doses. Some reduction was just due to me perfecting my injection technique, some was from use of rings and some was, I believe, from what little nerve recovery I've had.
Yes, I could increase my dose and negate any
need for rings, although both my wife and I have discovered we like the rings. I also fear increasing my dose will exacerbate my anorgasmia issues. I do not find ring use uncomfortable. Keep in mind that the novelty/sex shop rings I use are not nearly as tight as what would be used if using constriction rings to hold a VED induced erection. If the rings are uncomfortable you're using the wrong rings or the wrong size rings. Too thick of a ring can get in the way and cause discomfort for both my wife and I. Too thin of a ring can be uncomfortable. You have to find ones that work for you. Expect rejects. I have a reject drawer.
Also, with the silicone rings, which is the material I like, some manscaping is imperative. Silicone rings and hair are not compatible. That doesn't mean you have to shave. It just means the hair in question has to be short enough to get along with the rings.
Of course you don't have to use silicone rings. Use what you find you like. Personally I found the jelly type material rings to be worthless other than for humor but other guys have found other ring types they prefer. Don't be afraid to experiment. Maybe some of the guys that like other types of rings or ring substitutes will chime in.
Good luck.
