Nervous rookie questions

Postby oldman70 » Wed Jul 28, 2021 4:17 pm

Some rookie questions and fears.

I am about to take the "plunge" in the next few days but very nervous about my first self-injection.  FYI, the urologist is prescribing Quadmix after Cialis and Viagra only seem to get me to 80% and only for a minute or two .

My Urologist gave me a choice of injecting myself or letting him do it while at his office.  I should have pushed myself to do it,  but I could not see very well and opted to let him do it.  Over the past few days I have practiced trying to get a a view good enough to see visible veins but my stomach is too large. The doctor suggested using a mirror but that does not help a great deal. I could have my wife help guide me if needed but I would prefer to make the process less "clinical" for her.
Any suggestions for a good view when the view is obstructed by stomach? Or perhaps should I give up wanting to inject solo and have my wife guide me ?
I see a few past posts in this forum about "plumping".  Is that a safe thing to do? My uncircumcised penis when flaccid is a very flaccid 2 inches.  A worn out 70 year old penis, very hard to see anything . However I am usually able to get it to 5 inches with about 70% erection without any medication or pumps. . So is getting a semi erection in order to see better safe ?

My urologist injected a "test dose" of .20 He returned to the room after 25 minutes and assessed that I was "about 50% errect". That was correct but it was in the confines of his office. While he was out of the room , with the help of some self stimulation I was probably round 80% . The urologist advised that I try .30 at my first attempt at home. That makes me a bit nervous since most articles I read suggest only going up in .05 steps . I worry that going from .20 to .30 in one step might be too much since I can get about 70% for a minute or two with any medications. FYI, about 35 minutes of the .20 test dose I was totaly flaccid. So that .20 had no real lingering effect.
Also, despite watching several videos and reading a number of articles , I am still confused about a couple of steps in the injection process. Most articles I have read talk about the 10 or 2 o'clock injection concept. However the diagrams with a full clock, with a 12 at top and 6 at bottom confuse me. Would I be correct in ignoring all the full clock diagrams and just go with a 10 and 2 concept like we do for hand positions on a steering wheel?  Locate the "middle third" and then 10 and 2?

Next questiom is the injection angle.  Most articles say hold the syringe at a 90 degree angle , however many of the videos or images seem to show less than 90 degrees .  To confuse me even more, one clinic's video said inject at a 45 degree angle. Also, some articles suggest avoiding the 3 or 9 O'clock position but isnt a 90 degree angle going to be awfully close to 9 or 3 ? If I am looking down at my penis and manange to see well enough to locate a vein free area, should I be inserting the syringe at the 2 O'Clock point and inject at a narrower angle that 90 degrees ? I guess another way of asking questions about angle of injection would be to imagine the syringe as a spirit level when injecting at the 2 or 10 postion , would the bubbles on a level indciate it is "plumb" . ;)

Yes, your analogy with the steering wheel is a good one. Once inserted, the angle is important -- but not critical, you are essentially "pointing and inserting" toward the center of your penis.

Just do it! The results are incredible for most of us. We all have "missed" the mark and found a small vein which results in a bruise which is healed in a couple of days. After hundreds of self-administered injections I have never experienced any pain from the injection itself.

I had the same fear when injecting. Maybe a reclining position might help you better see down there.
I used an auto injector when using Trimix. Place the loaded needle inside, put the injector on your shaft and push a button. My doc told me 11 or 1 o'clock is where to inject, but I see other recommended areas too.
I think plumping up a bit might help to inject correctly and easier. I understand not wanting the wife to have to inject you, that part grossed my wife out. However if nothing else and she's comfortable doing it, go for it. I always hated having to interrupt snuggling to go inject, so maybe you could work that into part of your play.
Good luck

I have been alternating my trimix shots 50/50 between the left and right sides with the same good results. On the right, I do 2 O'clock, on the left, it's 10 O'clock.

I really believe the chief issue with trimix shots missing or injection difficulty is not being hard enough. If the dick is limp and small, the cavernosal tubes are like tiny worms. When you try to get a needle into them, they just deflect and move away, not to mention the target is really very small. If you can get your dick harder (I know it's not an easy matter, I have ED as well!) the cavernosa gets not only larger as well, but firmer. When firmer, they will "hold still" while you inject the needle into them. Anyway, the two shots that were duds with me were when I was too small. I'm 100% sure of it. Now my wife and I have a system that gets me firm enough to rush over to my desk chair and inject the shot!!

I use Easy Touch 30 gauge 1/2 inch .3ml model 830355 after experimenting this is perfect for me every time. The Easy Touch brand also freezes well, other lessor brands freezing them often makes them seize up even after defrosting. I keep about 20 prefilled syringes and the bigger vial in a Tupperware-style container in the freezer. When it's time for a seance with the wife, I take just one out of the freezer while we both shower and get the pregame show up to speed. It defrosts in less than 10 minutes or less if you hold it in your hand.

Some thoughts about your post, your comments about. If you end up needing 30 units, you may want to consider a stronger mix. And you are not "worn out", don't be too hard on yourself. Here are some things that have helped me. I take a couple of arginine/citrulline capsules twice a day (Now brand, from Amazon or iHerb). When I added the PM dose of this, the next morning I started getting "morning wood" again. I hadn't had that in years. It's not the iron-grade morning wood I had in my teens, but it's a start! In the last 13 months, I've lost 45lbs with a KETO diet. It has made me more metabolically "healthy". I read the stat that only 12% of people 60 and under are metabolically healthy and that over 60 only 2% are (there are five parameters I believe that measure this).
64 years old. Had a heart attack with two stents placed at 46, atrial fibrillation surgery at 54 years. Doing great now, lost 45lbs on KETO, ED under control with tri-mix, 5mg daily Cialis, and arginine/citrulline 2x a day. And morning wood is back!

I've been taking one 20mg tablet of Sildenafil daily for "penile health" since my radical prostatectomy in October 2018. I'm wondering if I can take the arginine/citrulline capsules as well as the Sildenafil daily? Or maybe drop the Sildenafil completely and repalce with arginine citrulline capsules? Will ask my Urologist.

Thanks to all that have replied so far, much appreciated. I continued to be surprised by the differing advice on many of the Youtube videos posted by men's health clinics. One even carefully emphasized the 10/2 O'clock issue and pointed out the 2 O'clock postion despite the fact the position they were pointing to was 10 O'clock :D Of course, the very next one I watched said 11 or 1 o'clock, another said 9 and 3 o'clock. The advice here has helped my not get too carried away with this detail.
After watching a Youtube video of a hosiptal emergency room treating a person with priapism (not something easy to watch :o ) I have decided I will not go from .20 to .30 of Quadmix in one step, even though my doctor recommedned this after my test dose. I'll go to .25 and see how that goes.

The avoiding a vein issue still concerns me since I don't have the best view even with "plumbing" .

I've injected from 2 to 4 and 8 to 10, maybe more. The most important point is to aim for the middle from wherever you start. If you're at 10 or 2 you will be aiming a bit down toward the center. If at 4 or 8 you'll be aiming up a bit. When starting injections it is probably the easiest to stick with the 3/9 entry points until you gain confidence.

I never plump before injecting. It might be a good idea if it's easy for you to do. Pre-injection plumping is not something I can do.

Assuming your injection angle is good I find there are 3 valuable methods to determine if you're at the correct depth:

The first method and the one I use first and most often is plunger resistance. If you're in the correct spot plunger resistance will be relatively light when depressing the plunger. If you're not in the correct spot resistance will be harder. That's the main reason I like to use the smallest capacity syringe possible for the dose. Generally the smaller the capacity of the syringe the less the natural plunger resistance of the syringe. The less the syringe natural plunger resistance the easier it is to detect differences in plunger resistance when actually injecting.

The second method is aspiration, the pulling back of the plunger to draw in a bit of blood. If it's easy to pull the plunger back and pull in a little blood then you're in the correct spot. When doing this I don't even look for blood. I just watch the stopper in the syringe. If in the wrong spot, when pulling back on the plunger, the plunger/stopper will rebound back to close to the original position when released. I just bull it back 1/8" or so. If in the correct spot, when pulling back on the plunger, it will stay where you pulled it back to. Then if you bother to look you will see a tinge of blood in the syringe.

The third method is pain. If while depressing the plunger (I depress it slowly in little pulses) you experience pain, then STOP, you aren't in the correct spot. Adjust you depth in or out and try again. When in the correct spot and injecting slowly there should not be pain while depressing the plunger.

You can go too deep as well as too shallow. So if if it doesn't seem right try a different depth. Try deeper but don't hesitate to withdraw a bit and try shallower. Sometimes I find it best to go too deep and then to pull out a bit to make sure I've pierced the membrane.

I don't claim my methods are the best or the only good methods. They're just what work well for me.

As for your difficulty seeing during your injection I don't really have any suggestions other than having you wife do it. Perhaps see if you can make it a light hearted game and let it become part of foreplay. Let her be the naughty nurse. Heck, get her a sexy nurse outfit if it will help. Make it fun.

Good luck.

First attempt failed ! Nothing happened, no indication that the injection found the correct spot. I may have missed the spot but I wonder about a couple other possibilities .

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I had some difficulty seeing due to a large belly. It took me a while to get up the courage and inject even though I was not convinced I had found a vein-free area . I was so nervous about the whole process that I don't think I paid enough attention to the drawing of the med. I forgot to look to make sure there were no bubles and I did not look to see if there was any actual medicine drawn in to the syringe. If done correctly, can you actually see the med in the syringe or is it colorless ? Also, because of fumbling around, the medication was out of the fridge for about 25 minutes before I did the injection. It was stored in the fridge, not the freezer. Would being out of the fridge for 25 minutes render it inert ? My only success was that I actually did an injection and had no bruising. Now that I've done it once I hope my second time has me focusing better and I can make sure I have actual medication in the syringe and perhaps aim better.

There are too many unknowns and variables in that scenario to offer anything constructive.
