I know this is a old thread. Did you find a work around for a provider? I asked my Doctor for Caverject but my insurance giving me the run around ( I travel a lot) but when i am not traveling I like to get from a compounder pharmacy. What was the dosage you started with and is it still effective? or is it a higher dose.

Hey Joeban,

Yeah i was able to work around. A member from here was kind enough to link me to a pharmacy that ships and sells alprostadil monomix for $120 a vial. My insurance does not cover the vials but they are cheap unlike Caverject.

I don't feel comfortable sharing the pharmacy because the member gave it to me over private message.

I started with 10mcg, these days i need to take at least 20mcg for it to be effective. However it seems after taking a few days break my tolerance goes down again. It's only after injecting several days in a row that my tolerance goes up.

Best.

Is there anyway to lessen the pain from PGE1 injection. i am starting the alprostadil and I don't want to use the Trimix (side effects) unless I have to. I hear a lot that after infecting for a while that things gets better from a pain prospective (How long is the question). Another question on injection. The dose that the doctor starting me is 30 units +?- 10 which I think is too high. The plan is to start using 10 units and go from there. what are you guys think ? how did you start? sorry for all the questions. Thank you

To lessen the pain use as little as necessary and no more. The addition of a novelty cock ring can help a bit to allow you to lose less but you would have to experiment with different rings and expect rejects. If it's too tight your wearing of it will be time limited to 20min or so. Some guys have reported success with combining Viagra or one of the other oral drugs with an injection to enable a smaller alprostadil dose. Consult your doctor first before trying that. Always use caution and start low. An insufficient erection beats an ER trip. I agree that using the least number of drugs possible is usually best. It is still my understanding that alprostadil, in the form of Edex or Caverject, are the only FDA approved erection injection drugs. It's also my understanding that alprostadil has the least potential risk of scaring and fibrosis. However, there is some risk with all of the injection drugs.

Yes, in many cases the alprostadil pain does moderate or disappear completely with continued use. But not in all cases. I don't know how long in general it takes. I also initially had some alprostadil ache, but probably not as bad as some. The ache didn't go away all at once and took quite a few months. Part of it was learning my correct dose and injection techniques. I didn't know about Frank Talk and my Urologist was of very little help so my learning curve was probably longer than necessary.

Your question has little meaning without knowing the strength of your mix. What matters is how many mcg of alprostadil you're injecting. That involves a little math based on the strength of your mix and the volume of mix you're injecting.

I started with Edex 10s, which means 10mcg of alprostadil. It didn't get the job done. I then went to Edex 20s, which after improving my injection technique, worked too well if I injected the full cartridge and they produced a notable amount of alprostadil pain and longer than desired erections. But I hated wasting the juice so injecting less than the full Edex 20 was difficult. I was banging on the go to ER door fairly often but never made that trip.

Around this time my insurance company quit covering Edex altogether. They rationed them pretty severely initially but then quit covering them altogether. That left me scrambling. I then got my GP/Primary doctor to write me a generic script based on the Edex ingredients but much stronger, equivalent to what would be an Edex 80, if they made them. I then found a compounding pharmacy, somewhat locally, that would fill the script.

After that point I was able to finish perfecting my injection techniques and perfect my dose. I also experimented with and perfected my technique with novelty/sex shop cock rings allowing a further reduction in dose. I now get no alprostadil pain. I also experimented with combining with Viagra. I found that the combination also allows less injection juice but I eventually decided the benefit it provided wasn't worth the heartburn.

I'm currently using 14 units of an 80mcg per ml mix aided by a silicone cock ring. Please note that these rings aren't remotely as tight as what medical grade rings would need to be if I was trying to maintain an erection produced with a VED.

Yeah I tried depending on a VED with ring before going to injections. Of course the first step was trying pills, as it should be. They gave me NO erection regardless of stimulation. The pills didn't work at all by themselves but they do help with pumping with a VED and with injections.

Edited for typos and clarity.

Thank you very much for taking the time with the detailed explanation. I really appreciate your time.

I talked my urologist to prescribe the Caverject 20 as I found out that The insurance will cover 12 injection a month to take on the road. my question on is this and i know the ramification of sterility. did anybody tried to save/refrigerate by moving the unused part left to a sterile vial?

Any recommendation on ring brand (you can PM please) that can be used in conjunction with the injection as stated ?

Anybody kept taking the daily Cialis regiment in addition on demands injection (I know my Urologist against it due to Priapism ?

Thank You

Saving unused Edex is very contrary to instructions so I won't suggest you do it.
However, I have experimented with doing just that. Using an Edex 40 I mixed the contents in the Edex vial as per instructions. I then removed the Edex needle and then inserted my own standard U-100 insulin syringe needles into the rubber where the the original Edex needle had perforated it. I then drew up 3 syringes of equal volume. I froze 2 of them and used the 3rd. I believe I removed the vial from the cartridge when drawing up the 3 syringes. You shouldn't have to depress the cartridge plunger as the vacuum created by drawing the up the 3 syringes pulls the stoppers inside the cartridge vial (It has been awhile since I did this). During this process I didn't do any injection with the Edex cartridge or needle so as to avoid any possible contamination. The other syringes that I froze worked fine when I used them later after thawing as did the 3rd one that was used initially. At least I haven't died from doing it yet nor has my dick fallen off. My experience should not be used to make an assumption that the practice is safe. There has to be a reason they warn not to do it.

I can share the brand of rings I use but I really think it's an individual thing. You will likely have to experiment and find what works for you. Expect rejects. One member posted some time in the past that he uses Velcro cable organizers and likes them because they are cheap and adjustable. I found them uncomfortable.

Anyhow, I use the PerfectFit Brand Xact-Fit Play Zone Cock Ring Kit. They're supposedly medical grade silicone, they're pretty cheap and the kit gives you gobs of different sizes to play with. They're currently about $30 bucks on Amazon where I bought them: https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Fit-Rings-Sturdy-Storage/dp/B01J84E5OK

Yes I've done it. It helped a bit in allowing a reduction of injection juice. I get worse side effects with Cialis than Viagra so I didn't continue. I'm not recommending the procedure. I'm not a doctor and have no qualifications to give medical advice. Always ask your doctor and follow his/her advice.

Please keep in mind that I have nerve damage from a RRP with cancer in the margins. Pills do nothing positive for me by themselves. I don't think any amount of pills could cause me to have a priapism. Do not assume that my ability to stack pills and shots together has any reflection on what your reaction will be. Please us caution.

Good luck.
