Wondering how to buy Alprostadil

I don't know anything about this yet. Just starting.

Dr prescribed 20 mcg Caverject one time use per unit.

Cost is 105.00 per unit.
Haven't even got the first prescription yet [couple of days] 300.00+ for 3 one time uses. [Too much if wife starts to like it]

I see I can buy a vial of 500 mcg/1ml with discount card from local pharmacies for 59.00 per vial.

Any advice on using and measuring out this vial ?
Seems like I could save quite a bit, but don't know the first thing about all this yet.

Thanks in advance, Mike

You will need to call your compounding pharmacies to find one that does a straight alprostadil mono-mix. You need to figure out what strength you need.

I was on Edex 20s, the completing brand of Caverject. I had the same affordability issue. Based on the Edex label, I had my primary care physician write me a prescription for a generic version containing just alprostadil and saline, except instead of 20 mcg per ml I had him write it for 80 mcg per ml. That way I inject about a quarter of the volume of the Edex cartridge and it's very economical at $120 for 10 one ml vials of the mix. I've found I do have to inject the juice slower to avoid pain from the concentrated mix.

It may require some effort and searching on your part to find a compounding pharmacy that can or is willing to make that mix. I'm in FL and my pharmacy only ships within FL.

Good luck.

I’ve been on Edex for several months now at 20mcg dose. Not much pain honestly now compared to when I first started. I’m sure you can purchase online, however it is much advisable to go through a urologist.

My insurance covers it with a copay. It’s rather expensive.

I want to use trimix, but my insurance does not cover it.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm going to start with the expense, but if it works I'll follow some of your ideas . My urologist was big on the implant route but I'm not ready to go for that yet if at all. I live in a small town with limited urologists but close to a large city.
Probably find some better options there once I get comfortable with the process and it works.
This forum also helps me to come up with somewhat informed questions. I asked my urologist about the sudafed, he didn't know anything about it.

Also forced me to go to a certain pharmacy. I'll use him for the demo shot, see how it works and move on if it does.

Thanks again.

My current Uro also uses only one pharmacy. I get my GP (AKA Primary) to write my script basedw
on the Edex ingredients listed on the Edex label.
