Gabapentin and Loss of Sensation

Postby antelope » Sun Sep 22, 2019 11:35 pm

Hey guys, I was recently prescribed 300 mg of Gabapentin 3 times daily (900 mg total per day) to relieve pain from diabetic neuropathy in my legs. It has given me a good amount of relief, but for the first time since my journey with ED, I am having considerable difficulty achieving orgasm. I'm not sure there is a causal relationship between the two or if it's just coincidental.

Gabapentin works on neuropathy by doing magic things to the nerve endings in my legs. Nothing in the literature about Gabapentin side effects mentions loss of sensation in the penis, but I'm wondering if the nerve endings in my favorite body part are dulled by the meds. If so, I have to consider whether to deal with the (considerable) leg pain in order to have sex. Tough choice, eh?

Any thoughts?

Thanking you in advance, Antelope.

I also take Gabapentin at the same dose as you. I have not noticed any sensation changes in my Penis. I had a sensation test done by my URO in which they test different parts of the body including the Glans. My Glans sensation was deemed normal.

I have been taking 3600 mg of gabapentin daily for several years for back and nerve pain. Have had trouble climaxing for past few years. Never really connected the two just thought it was due to aging. Dont know that I can do anything about it as I have had number surgeries over number years. I welcome any suggestions. This is a great helpful site. Men helping men with what we treasure most! Thank you guys again for sharing.

Thanks, guys. Good info. I will share your experiences and mine with my GP next time I see him. I will have more "data" by then. :)

Gabapentin Update: I had some (non-related) tests run and doc reviewed the results with me this morning. Having him on the phone, I asked if there could be any relationship between taking Gabapentin and loss of sensitivity in my penis leading to delayed orgasms. He basically said, "No, no connection." So, unless I'm the first member of the Limp Dick Caucus to discover a new side effect of Gabapentin, rest easy my fellow neuropathy peeps.

Hopefully, this delayed ejaculation thing is temporary. I'll find out in a day or two. :)

Tried again after waiting 4 days: great success. The problem was definitely not the Gabapentin.

FYI-Gabapentin update

I have decided to try cutting back on my 3600 daily dosage as I have taken this for years never noticed any obvious sud3 effects. Reduced dosage by 50% to see if I can handle this reduction and to see if I notice any change in bodily sensations. Reduction is four days old and no noticeable difference thus far. Will keep you updated as I love this FT Forum for men! The only forum we have. Thank you Franktalk!
