Recommended maximum frequency

Postby WestLad » Tue Dec 16, 2025 6:29 am

Does anyone have the scientific / clinical explanation for the “every other day / three times per week" that is generally quoted?
Is it to minimise the risk of scarring?
I have never found any scientific explanation, even though it is frequently specified as the maximum injection frequency.

Good question. I try to follow the rule, but not religiously, of not doing it in successive days or more than three times a week; but I've never seen the scientific basis for it. I hope we get that answer.

A little Trimix or whatever you're using seems to remain after 24 hours, so your carefully titrated amount might be too much.

I dod injections basically every other day for a year or more. That seems to be about the most you can do safely.

Follow up:
I found this on an ED website -

It is important not to inject more than once every
24 hours unless otherwise instructed by your
doctor. Most doctors recommend no more than 3-4
times weekly to minimize scar tissue formation.

And this in a general search (but without any sources….):-

Urologists recommend a maximum of three intracavernosal injections per week to ensure patient safety and treatment effectiveness. This limit helps to:
Prevent Priapism: Excessive use of injections can lead to priapism, a condition where an erection lasts longer than four hours, which can cause permanent damage to the penis.
Minimize Side Effects: Limiting the frequency reduces the risk of side effects such as pain, bruising, and fibrosis (thickening of the erectile tissue)
