How To Get Injection Prescriptions NHS?

Postby Irish Lad 34 » Wed Jun 11, 2025 1:23 pm

I live in Northern Ireland, UK. A 20mcg or 40mcg alrprostadil prescription would help right now.

Is it easy to get a GP to prescribe it?

I only ever visited my GP once since moving here and I don't really like him, so not too eager to go back.

My job gives me access to this Help@Hand service where you can do telephone consultations with NHS GPs. I did a phone consultation with one of those GPs a few weeks ago, asked for an alprostadil script, explained I had venous leak - he would not issue the script. Advised me to visit the GP and get a referral for a urologist. I'm thinking of trying another phone consultation with a different GP - is this a good idea? What's the quickest and easiest way to get a cost effective prescription supply of alprostadil here?

You must be patient, and a urologist will come and help you.
You must put yourself in their shoes; you don't just get a prescription for an injection because you ask for it.
The doctor must take your medical history and follow up with you and determine that you really need injections!
I wish you the best of luck on your journey; we'll be here with you!

You will probally have to see your GP who will refer you to a Urologist to check for any medical reasons for the problem then after that a referral to a Ed clinic who will then recommend to your GP to write out a prescription for you not a quick job that how it went for me

Yeah there is no way a GP would prescribe injections as it wouldn’t be within their knowledge or powers.

As others have said the route would have to be urology referral, either the consultant or a specialist nurse would then prescribe.

Hope this helps

Currently trying injections - may be a neurogenic cause of ED.

Don't know your situation, but if you can afford to fly to the US and have friends there, you could get a 10ML vial of Trimix from Olympia in Orlando. Its how I started on vacation from Canada to AZ. Just get a good freezer thermos to keep the Trimix frozen.
