Thawing frozen Trimix for several days in fridge before use?

Postby Deets842 » Tue Jul 12, 2022 2:15 pm

My Dr. is now telling me to thaw the Trimix (take it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge) in the refrigerator for a few days before using. He didn't really explain why, just made that recommendation in a message today. Has anyone else received this same advice? Previously, I had been taking it out of the freezer, thawing for 30 minutes at room temp and then putting it back in the freezer.

Hi Deets,

What works for me is to take out the 10ml vial of trimix from the freezer and leave it out for about 30-40 minutes. I hold it up to a strong light to make sure it's completely defrosted. I swirl it around to mix and pre-fill up to about 30 syringes with the amount of trimix that I use per injection. When I fill up these syringes, I leave a little air at the top since I will be freezing these filled syringes as well.

Then I put the vial, the 30 or so filled syringes, the entire thing, back into the freezer in a little box (used to be a box that lunchmeat was sold in). I keep it always in the freezer. When it comes time for some action with the wife, I get out one filled syringe from my freezer box and put my entire box back into the freezer. The frozen syringes defrost quickly, maybe 7 or 8 minutes on my nightstand. I purge that additional air from the single syringe right before injection.

I've kept these frozen syringes and the 10ml vial for many months in the freezer, they work perfectly and haven't lost any potency that I can detect.

Hope this helps.

i take it out of the freezer to thaw only long enough to draw into the syringe and inject. that process is minutes, maybe ten if i'm taking my time but it goes right back to the freezer after that. up to 26 injections, have not had any issues. a couple misfires yes, but no thawing issues.

I haven’t found TriMix to be that fragile. Even when it’s been at room temp for a day or two. The potency seemed the same.

I tried freezing filled syringes and had some that couldn’t inject when I thawed them later. As if the medication had precipitated/clogged the needle. It looked clear but would not inject. Very frustrating. That may be dependent on the strength of the medication. By the time I tried this I was already on a really concentrated mix. But others are able to do it with no problems.

Hi Goodwood, I had that problem early on with some of the syringes. I solved it by using only Easy Touch brand. Never, ever, had an issue with over 100 shots now. Be sure to pull the amount of trimix you use, in my case 15 units, pull out of the vial, and before capping pull in about 5 units of air. Then I cap and put it in my little freezer box along with the many others. I promise you it will work for you. I use the Easy Touch 30ga 1/2 .3cc (holds 30 units only, that way I can get precise with how much I draw).

I do what solvingadream does pretty much.

I freeze vials. Then, anticipating need, thaw a vial and load
5 or 6 syringes about half inch over the anticipated volume
needed and freeze the loaded syringes. When I expect to
need an injection (date night), I remove 1syringe and put it in
fridge for a couple of hours.

I also draw about half inch air into syringe before the
initial freeze.

When ready for use, the plunger is a little hard to move
but the air cushion at the top allows me to get the
plunger moving without risking losing fluid itself.

Freezing seems to preserve strength for a Long time
