VED for beginners - any advice is welcomed

Postby Fourtytwo00 » Tue Aug 17, 2021 4:10 pm

Hi mates, among the various things I'm suffering a rx drug resistant insomnia. Perhaps I became a little bit depressed because of ED and this is just a symptom. Insomnia reduces my already weak nocturnal erections. So I'm thinking about VED mostly as a kind of exercise for my penis. I'm not particularly interested in length or girth gains, just not losing. I'm totally new of this field and I want to avoid damages or leakages, so any advice about models, prices, instructions, etc. is welcomed.

Thanks guys

Hi for some one new i would recomend a low prise adult store VED, don't forget the VED will not harm you, only the way you use it, so go easy, use plenty of lube gel, see how you progress.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for asking our advice.

VEDs are useful to prevent degradation of your penis size and health. They can also (to a limited extent) restore recently lost size (this is controversial and may not work for every penis, but it does not hurt to try).

Regular erections (most men get erections during sleep, even if they don't have a sexual partner) keep the elasticity of the penile tissues and also flush healthy blood through the corpus cavernosum tissues.

Regular use of a Vacuum Erection Device (VED) can emulate those nocturnal erections and have been shown to prevent size loss and even restore some (recently) lost size.

I used two protocols of a 30 minute sessions twice a day. One is to use the vacuum to inflate the penis to a full erection, hold that level of vacuum for 30 to 60 seconds and release the vacuum, allowing the penis to become completely flaccid. Then repeat the cycle for 30 minutes. Do not apply vacuum past a level of slight discomfort because too much vacuum can cause damage to the penis. Another protocol is to apply vacuum, keep the vacuum and increase by small increments as comfort level allows. 30 minutes twice a day. For therapeutic use (not for sex, but just for penis health) constriction rings are not used at all.

Too much vacuum can cause edema (which usually resolves in a few days if you quit vacuuming). More than that can cause permanent damage. So use your comfort level as a guide. I found that inside the vacuum chamber, my penis got about 2cm or 3/4 inch longer than what I could achieve by my best efforts at erection. Going beyond that, I got edema, which alarmed me until I found out what it was and temporary. A vacuum gauge would be nice, but if one is careful and observant, not necessary.

Medical grade VEDs are more expensive and probably more reliable and may have a pressure relief valve to avoid too much vacuum. Novelty store VEDs should work just as well at substantially less cost. After all, a vacuum is a vacuum and your penis does not care how it is achieved. Differences, such as smoothness of the mouth of the chamber, inserts to adjust the size of the mouth of the chamber and convenience make up the rest of the differences for therapeutic use. If you want to use a vacuum-induced erection for sex, there are a whole bunch of other differences. How the constriction ring(s) is/are applied is a big one.

If you go back and read old threads you will find links to the medical journal articles that describe these in detail and discuss results.

Thanks a lot. Surfing on Amazon/internet I saw the following type of VED:
- manual (usually cheap)
- batteries (both medical and non medical grade)
- hydropumps (like this one: https://bathmatedirect.com/ )

Is there any difference in safety?
What exactly is a hydropump, if someone ever tried one here?

LeLuv offers a decent quality complete system, including a vacuum gauge, for under $70.

I mention vacuum gauge because one of the recommended routines for improving ED is by using a method called pulse pumping, which simulates the natural process your penis goes through during REM sleep at night. This procedure involves pumping your dick up to 5 inches of Mercury (hg) for 30 seconds and then releasing the vacuum to 2 hg for 10 to 15 seconds. Repeat the process for ten minutes in the beginning and slowly increase time under vacuum up to 20 minutes over several weeks.

I'll have to disagree a it on the "cheap sex shop pump is as good as medical grade" philosophy. I do think it's hard to understand the cost of most of the medical grade pumps. Also the medical grade pumps probably aren't worth the price difference. However, if you can afford the medical grade pumps without affecting your budget, then they are probably better to spend the extra money.

I do know I've tried several of the sex shop pumps in the past. They do work but the quality difference is obvious. The durability difference is large. There may be some quality pumps that are also cheap. I haven't seen one yet.

I have no opinion on the LeLuv pumps as I've never seen or researched then.

A good reason to start with a cheaper sex store type pump is the low initial investment. That way when it breaks or you decide pumping is not for you, you're not out a ton of money. They tend to have thinner walled cylinders and flimsy pumping mechanisms. The ones I have used are not difficult to use. If you are pleased with the initial experience and results there are a ton of options for upgrading the experience.

You mentioned you were considering a Bathmate. I use both a Bathmate and a Penomet. I rotate them into my daily routine about every couple of weeks or so.
It is easy to become frustrated with a lack of success in getting a good vacuum with these pumps. If you do decide to try one I highly recommend a good trim or even better a good shave. I use Glyde pump oil on the rim that will contact my body. https://www.pumptoys.com/catalog/All-Pr ... de-14.html

Most “medical grade” pumps are designed to allow a tension band to be slipped off the end of the cylinder on to the pumped up erection. Accordingly, the edge of the base rim is quite narrow making it uncomfortable for longer sessions. Good quality “sex Shop” pumps have a wide base rim for comfort and can also accommodate a silicone comfort “gasket.”

Medical grade pumps are suited best for generating and holding an erection whereas a quality sex shop pump with a vacuum gauge is best suited for therapy. I have one of each for each purpose.

I found this model: https://www.andromedical.com/product/androvacuum/
It looks like a medical grade (price 100€ = 117$) but I have no experience.

Is it OK?

I've never heard of that brand. Of course if it's mainly a Brit or EU product my ignorance of it means nothing.
