Can a VED be taken on airplane in carry-on bag?

Postby Bailey » Thu May 02, 2019 8:05 pm

Would like to know if anyone knows if you can take a manual VED on an airplane in a carry- bag? I just ordered it online & haven’t received it yet. I’m going on vacation for 2 weeks & would like to take it with me. Surgery is scheduled for June 18th, & I would like to be able to use it for 4 to 6 weeks prior to my surgery.

As long as you don't embarrass easily I'd think it would be fine. I wouldn't be surprised if it got inspected but it should pass inspection OK.

Chances are that it will not be picked up, but if it is, explain that it is a medical device. Check the paper work that came with it an see if it is described as a medical/therapy device and bring it with you.

Bailey,
I will be taking mine with my for my revision. Flying in and driving back. You've made a good choice. Just use short bursts of higher pressure. Good luck

DougAnd,
Thanks for the reply. Good luck to you also on the 19th. You made a great choice with Dr. Kramer. We will have to stay in touch on our recovery. Take care, Bailey

Alternative:

When I went to a family event and had a significant detour on the way, I mailed my suit and dress shoes to my Brother's house. No hassle of dragging the things around and winding up with a wrinkled suit.

You may be without it for a day or two, but avoids some hassles in the trade-off.

Why would you place it in your carry-on? If you put it in you checked luggage, you will have less problems. They only really get stupid about stuff you have access to at 30,000'. :)

I don't know the OP's reasoning but if I can travel light enough to avoid checked luggage it sure makes traveling easier and more pleasant.

Well, that's true... I have only ever travelled on a plane for vacation and then I need checked luggage... I never thought about a quick trip without the need. :)
