Medication effects

Postby hoosierphilly » Thu Mar 31, 2011 3:33 pm

Has anyone who takes glipizide, metformin and /or 5 mg lisinipril noticed any effects on the sensation of the skin in general, sexual reponse or less errections.
Of course the MD's say no.........I have felt this plus psychologically down since the glipizide was doubled (I let it slide as I had been anemic) and lisinipril added. Then the past to weeks all went to hell......as I have been taking taking 2-3 tylenol for pain after having some serious dental work done.

I have taken two 1000 mg of Metformin daily for over 5 years with no noticeable side effects. I had ED before I started taking Metformin, primarily from diabetic neuropothy. Although my ED has worsened over the years, I can't attribute the progression directly to Metformin.

I inject Byeta over the Glucotrol, and insulin over the Metformin, but am taking Lisinipril and Vytorin and other crap for my wonky heart. My doc was straight up that the combo is yet another nail in the erection coffin.
As far as sensation to the skin... no problems for me, but one known side effect of Glucotrol is a rash. You could be having a very mild reaction to it that's making you skin feel odd.

Less serious side effects may include:

* nausea, stomach pain;
* diarrhea, constipation;
* dizziness, drowsiness; or

* skin rash, redness, or itching.

2 TURP surgeries caused Peyronie's. 1st implant lost to infection, 2nd one is about 5 years old. But "floppy head" due to all the scar tissue, couldn't get tips all the way up.

I take 20mg lisinopril (sp) and have noticed almost a total lack of senstion in the penis, never thought that that could have anything to di with my problem. I also take quite a few other heart pills, atenelol etc, I chekced the inet and nothing I found associates anything with ED much less a lack of almost total sensation. I am taking 40mcg of edex injection and it will make me somewhat erect but I don't think enough for any type of penetration male or female.

In all likelihood, your lack of sensitivity is all related to your diabetes. I too take 1000 mg of Metformin twice a day and don't think it's having that affect. It's just the DMII in my opinion. Having said that, I will add that if you take any anti-depressants, especially Lexapro. After my prostatectomy, I took that for awhile, and literally the same day of my first pill, my genitals went numb. My doc thought I was nuts, but I couldn't barely tell I had a penis except when I looked at it. Bad news.
Age 63 married 41 years...2 kids and 2 grandkids. Had robotic RP in Apr 2008. Negative PSA since then. Suffered ED initially from Type II diabetes and then the RP. Had AMS700 LGX implant on 7 Nov 11.

Thanks!

I have cut out tylinol, linsinpril, and vytorin. My GP has cut my metformin/janumet scrip in half as my sugars have been running low. I have switched my vitamins and some supplements to Dr. Wrights (a diabetes specialist in CA). I am to discuss my lisinpril situation with my endo in 3 weeks. Hopefully everything will stay stable as I have resumed exercising and taking some other things as well as dropping some lbs finally. I am not very heavy, maybe 15 more than I would like. I have added flowmax as after a bug, I developed an urology infection. Has any one had problems with that? I took it for 8ish years then stopped it for 4 or so after a urologist added finisteride (a real downer that I took 3-4 months) when I complained of sharp pain in my penis...more frequenetly during sex. I stopped both for a saw palmetto mix and things got better, after 9 urologists with no explanation and then a research clinic said I could be forming tiny crystals causing pain from the flowmax (nothing showed on a sonogram). Daily cilias (5mg) helped. My A1Cs have always been in the 6's and usually low 6's. Lately they have been going down to 68. They very rarely have gone over 150 and usually 115-140 in the past and now much lower. I only really gotten non functioning since they added those meds in Oct and I had anemia from a prostrate bio (stupidly forgot to stop myenteric. So my wife is blaming the meds not the diabetes or afraid something else is wrong despite the fact my cholesterol is down as wells as my triglycerides etc are all in the normally ranges. (I had angioplasty 13 years ago).

This area times out too fast. I had to redo it.

Great since the 3-4 days since cutting back and out my meds.....my sensations returned slowly, but finally today successfully. A silicon ring and with cilias helped the gig too. We are still thinking the strikeouts have been from tylonal from for my dental surgery pain and the low level lisinopril for the worsening ED since going on it. This had happened a few years ago, and I went off it with my MD's approval at that time. Different speciality ....same practice. I think they can monitor my kidneys better to determine if I really need it.
