Male Ego?

Postby Frank Talk Admin » Wed Feb 02, 2011 3:37 pm

Guys,
http://askdrmyers.wordpress.com/?utm_content=paul%40franktalk.org&utm_source=VerticalResponse&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=here&utm_campaign=Penile%20Shortening%20Revisitedcontent
today I got this video from Dr. Snuffy Myers who talks about penile shortening with PCa surgery. He asserts that it should not be a big deal and perhaps our 'postmenopausal partners' would prefer it smaller. He then goes on to say that it is male ego - as if the male ego is something bad.

I can't help but think, if we said that women who wanted breast reconstruction were just giving in to female ego, we would be shot.

is the male ego the cause of all things bad? It seems to be the accepted target to bash. No one wants to lose any positive physical attribute - whether it is hair, teeth, waistline, physique or penis length.

And does he seem a bit hesitant to say the word 'penis' at times? If he's a famous uro who has difficulty with this - no wonder 86% of doctors can't ask their patients about sexual difficulties!

Thanks for posting this Paul.

No urologist should be "uncomfortable" talking about shrinkage (or dysfunction) after surgery as he stated he was. Shrinkage and dysfunction should be part of the up-front discussion more than they are........ as I believe both are "under-presented" prior to surgery. Thank goodness there are Uros that are also ED docs. At least I've had some luck there....IMHO.

Paul:

This man needs a couple of years in a re-education camp!! His approach is a huge dis-service to PCa victims. It is opinions like his that make the establishment of the ED Foundation even more crucial. There is so much to be done to get Uro's to think in a positive manner like the medical professionals who care for women with breast cancer and advocate so strongly for them. We guys have a long ways to go and the bigger part of the problem is other "professional" men that don't want or care to face the issues as we have been required to face.

Last I heard there was nothing wrong with a male ego that was proportioned to reality. The medical costs and other social costs to these side effects needs to be the aim one of his precious papers. But, as we know, anybody (even a doc) can get on the net and talk. Our responsibility is to offer the truth and continue to advocate for more services, research and understanding to benefit PCa victims.

Thanks for posting. We all need to know about this lack of compassion and professional arrogance.

Don't believe I'd be trusting my willie to anyone named Snuffy. Just sayin'.
Born 1948, wed 1969. BPH & Type II Diabetes at age 35. TURP-2002; ED even before that--diabetes. Cardiac valve surgery: 2007 & 2019. Poor results with pills. Started trimix injections in Nov, 2010. Great results from the very beginning.

What most medical doctors don't know can fill a shelf full of books... and they're all written by alternative medical practitioners. I've been studying this for years. Sure, if you're broken and bleeding, you want to go to well staffed emergency room. However, for most chronic issues, definitely seek out the help of a Naturopath, Chiropractor, or other educated holistic practitioner.

You might have to interview a few until you find one that specialized in your issue (ED or otherwise), but there are many solid advisers out there that do not have MD after their names.

Robin, I would like to hear more from you about holistic and naturopath routes, as I think that might be a possibility. Have you elaborated on this in other posts? If not, would you mind filling me in on the details.

I'm not sure my last post was done. Please share with me your details on a Naturopath or holistic practitioner. This really appeals to me, but I don't quite know how to go about the research on this. Any details and advice would be much appreciated.

Dr. Myers had/has PCa himself. Yep, that's right. I don't remember what tretment he had but maybe he has had to face the reality of his own problem and insecurities. He at least is being honest and publicly stating if you have surgery your penis will be shorter. I have a lot of respect for the Dr that did my surgery but at the same time he was not completely honest. I commented during presurgery consult "I understand my penis will be smaller" his replay was no if you do penile rehab you should not notice a change. Well he lied. I pumped, injected, took all the pills and whacked off and frankly mine was bigger when I was 12 years old. When they remove the prostate it leves a gap between the urethra and the bladder of between 1-2 in that when the uretha is reconnected to the bladder it pulls the penis back so it can't help but be shorter. Couple that with the loss of noctunal erections and your left with having to stand real close to urinal to pee. At least old Snuffy is being honest. But bashing male ego that is uncalled for. PCa and/or ED usually happens at a time in our lives when or ego is already being hit had enough. Our physical activity is weaking, muscles and joints hurt that years ago we didn't know we had and then we get slapped with lossing our manhood. Yep we have ego that why we are successful, take care of families, try to stay fit and why we share on this board. Ego keeps us going so don't knock mine if you have lost yours.

Dr. Meyers is probably trying to reduce the depressing effect that learning that you now have a shorter penis after undergoing major surgery to save you from a traumatic life threatening illness. Similar to the way my edocrinologist tried to convince me that my lifestyle would not be seriously altered when I was diagnosed with diabetes and would now be required to inject insulin on a daily basis. Probably not as traumatic as learning you have a shorter dick, but you get the idea.

I also have a naturally slightly below average size dick, so I have spent considerable time on several forums dedicated to encouraging exercises and devices intended to increase the size of your dick. As you might expect, there are many members on these sites with average or above average endowment who still want to make their dicks even bigger. However, the prevailing mantra on these forums is that size doesn't matter. Putting it in other words, It's not the size of the dick that matters, but the person attached to the dick. Perhaps this is the idea that Dr. Meyers is trying to put forward to the patients recovering from an emasculating surgery.

I know you don't want to hear this, but it is all about ego. We don't want to lose what little we have, but 5inches works as well as 7. 8-)
