When I first found out I had PVL

Postby Norrr813 » Sun Feb 25, 2024 9:52 pm

I remember the first time I went to the doctor to get diagnosed. I made an appointment on ZOCDOC for an early visit. I was both nervous and excited to finally find out what was wrong with me. The doctors office was about an hour from where I lived. I had good music playing the weather was nice. As I arrived the nurse greeted me and took me to the waiting area. The doctor came out after about 15-20 minutes. I discussed my symptoms with him and told him about my sex life and other personal experiences I’ve had. He told me they were going to run a few test. They tested my hormones and test levels everything came back normal. Next they did a Doppler scan test, the nurse injected my flaccid penis with Trimix and after about 15 minutes the doctor came back in the room to run the test. My penis wasn’t erect, he ran the test anyway. He then told me I had penile venous leakage. My heart sank because I previously had done research on what could be wrong with me and this was one of the things that came up and I also knew there wasn’t a cure for it. The doctor began to talk to me about a penile implant. I told him I would need time to thing about it. So he prescribed me cialis and I was in my way. On my way back home I cried…. I drove about 130 mph on the highway with the music off thinking about how my life was basically over and there was nothing I could do. Thoughts of me being alone for the rest of my life began to run through my mind. I can’t have consistent sex with anyone, I won’t be able to find someone that will understand my situation etc.. 10 years later at 31 years old there’s still no cure. I wasted my entire 20s being depressed. I ended up moving back in with my mom and gaining a bunch of weight.

Now in 2024 at 31 years old I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on the implant. First I’m going to get back in shape and get my own place. I’ve hired a personal trainer to help me in that area. But I think I’m ready.. I’m tired of being alone. I’m tired of being depressed I’m ready for a change.

Unless you reach a full erection they can't say that you have a VL, maybe he missed the injection stop or the dose was too low...

Good for you! Life is too short to not enjoy all of our given attributes.
Sounds like you got some work cut out for you. Best of luck. You can do it.

You know what I think I’m going to get a 3rd opinion.

Norrr: Not all urologists are interested in our ED problems. Many are only interested in prostates and kidney stones, for example. A lot of FT guys have had to interview numerous urologists to find one who will take enough time to research complicated ED difficulties, some of which might have psychological components.

You've convinced yourself that you have the elusive and hard to diagnose venous leak on what seems flimsy grounds. Take a look at the topic "Hard/Flaccid," particularly Fed1981's experience.
Age 78 in 2023. On testosterone replacement due to hypothalamus malfunction. (Attention depressed guys: low testosterone is a cause.) Healthy health nut but ED due to getting old. Like to keep enough cardiovascular ability to thrust for 30 min.

You are lucky that there are alternatives fo ED. I've had venous leak all my life. There was no medicine when I was your age. My sex life was a disaster. Mostly there was no sex life at all. After a few decades there was Viagra that helped about 10 years. Now I use Caverject but it is out of stock. Again I don't have sex life at all.
65 yrs, had venous leak all my life, sildenafil and other pills don't work anymore properly, using Caverject with pills.

Like everyone else has told you , find a urologist that you believe has your best interests at heart. Don’t let that diagnoses get you down anymore. I lost a marriage because I had Ed issues my whole life and was always depressed and didn’t feel like a man. Since getting the implant I have more confidence and self esteem. I think I might have the record on here for the most revisions, but I would get another revision in a heartbeat if I needed it.
39 01/24/19 USC Dr Doumanian LGX 15cm 3, lGX 18 +2, revision 6-20 18+3 pump failure, revision 8-20 left cylinder in scrotum, 1-21 removed infection switched to dr Doyle, Boyd 10.05.21 a 15+3 cx,revision 01,23,24 with switch to LGX 15+6 fat pad removal.
