Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for ED treatment?

Postby personfromon » Wed Sep 07, 2022 12:11 pm

Hey Franktalk members,

I am wondering if anyone here has used Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in order to treat their erectile dysfunction? A friend told me he was speaking to someone who bought one (not cheap--around a $50K price tag) and was using it daily for other issues, and found that much stronger erections were a side effect that he had not expected.

If you don't know what HOT is, this is from the Mayo Clinic website:
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, a potential risk of scuba diving. Other conditions treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy include serious infections, bubbles of air in your blood vessels, and wounds that may not heal as a result of diabetes or radiation injury.

In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased two to three times higher than normal air pressure. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather much more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure.

When your blood carries this extra oxygen throughout your body, this helps fight bacteria and stimulate the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing.

In addition, this therapy can allegedly induce penile angiogenesis.

This study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30089290/ also had promising results in regards to using HOT as an ED treatment.

In any case, has anyone on this forum tried this treatment? What was your experience with it? Any input here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I think this is the same treatment that can be found at wound clinics. People that have some kind of wound like on a leg or something visit the clinic and spend time in the chamber. I certainly would not be able to pay 50k for my own personal machine, but if medical insurance allowed for it then it might be something to look into.

All these new purported treatments for ED come with too high a price tag.

Here's a small thread derail the thread brought to mind:

I have mild diabetes, well controlled with metformin, which may explain why it takes wounds on my legs considerably longer to heal than wounds found elsewhere. I'm sure age doesn't help either. Anyhow, I have at times taken a reduced daily dose (50mg) of sildenafil for ED therapy (I think I also read it may help prevent Alzheimer's too, but I can't remember for sure). My very un-scientific tentative observation is that when I do take daily sildenafil my leg wounds heal faster. Don't rely on my tentative observation for anything. More just a musing than anything else.

Sorry about the thread derail.

I wonder if oxygen in general has the same effect? Anybody on oxygen that can report about erection quality? Interesting to me also is the fact that in Israel they used an ED drug to help those inflicted with the covid. I wonder how many hyperbaric sessions would be needed and how long would the treatment last?

I've never tried HOT but it has been mentioned several times on these forums. It is a brilliant treatment and not just for ED, diabetics use it as well. It seems that HOT may also rejuvenate your skin but I'm not entirely sure about this.

Could you point me to the threads? I'm actually a type 1 diabetic, and assume that to be the cause of my ED so this could be a good avenue for me regardless.

I am guessing that is why I am familiar with it at wound clinics. Apparently HOT helps the skin and wounds to heal.
I knew a person that was receiving such treatment, and I also knew a nurse that worked in a clinic and explained it to me a little bit. Seems like it would be perfect for penis health, prostates and testicles too

Guys, don't get your hopes up. Supplemental oxygen is a standard treatment for sleep apnea. I've used oxygen during sleeping for around 10 years. No improvements but it is not used in a chamber. Diabetics use it to help treat infections from their diabetes impaired capillaries . My nephew had to use it several times. Btw, his diabetes finally killed him.

I've actually heard that sleep apnea can influence ED. Maybe a man in his 30s or 40s would see more benefit from getting his sleep apnea under control with increased oxygen or use of a cpap. I'm saying if that was the only health issue maybe it could help.

I just hope I don't have a sleeping disorder that is contributing to my sexual health concerns.
