Medications Causing ED?

Postby 79nTrying » Mon Aug 15, 2022 2:23 pm

I'm on a LOT of meds! Looking for tips from others who have narrowed down
which of these are the worst offenders. Doctors seem to not want to talk about
meds & ED..
I am currently using Tri-Mix but not even that seems to work-
• TRAMADOL 50 mg (1 in the morning)
• Lexipro 5mg (Escitalopram) [Trying to stop]
• Eliquis 5mg 2 a day
• Lisinopril 40 mg
• Metoprolol 12.5mg 2 a day
• Amlodipine 5 mg
• Tamsulosin 0.4 mg – 2 a day (Flomax)
• Loratadine
• Omeprazole 40
• amiodarone 200 mg For afib
• FAMOTIDINE 20MG
• Atorvastatin 80 mg
• Doxazosin 4 mg

Wife has early dementia & still likes sex but doesn't help get things started.
Should I just give up?
Thoughts appreciated.

Yeah, a quick web search indicates several of your drugs could contribute to ED. I didn't search anywhere near all of them and didn't follow up with further than the initial list of hits (I didn't read the listed links). Metoprolol for one. Tamsulosin can possibly contribute. Pretty easy to research. If you need the drug what are you going to do?

I would say quite possibly there are many on that list. Of course the thing to remember is not everybody will get the same side effects.

Could you talk to your doctor about removing some of the meds unless they are 100 percent essential? It looks like there are some blood pressure meds and blood thinners so I assume that is cardiac related stuff. If you have problems with your arteries, then unfortunately one could expect the blood flow to the penis to be affected. Ask if you are healthy enough for sex.

I personally had some issues with anti-depressants causing me to not be able to ejaculate like I normally did. I picked up on it immediately and wanted nothing more to do with those meds. Because to me it was just adding to the problem of making me feel depressed and broken.

Dr told if if I would lose 40 pounds he could get me off ALL BP meds. I just had a stress test & passed but do have afib, treated with meds. The COVID 'restrictions' for the past 2 yrs have not helped! (Lack of exercise.) Have a PCP checkup coming in a couple of weeks. Will talk about changes. I just looked FLOMAX up and it says reduces ejaculation volume. hmmm. THanks

Tramadol and lexapro are well-known offenders in the sex department. But that doesn't mean everyone taking them will have problems.

SSRI's such as Lexapro are well known offenders. For me, Lisinopril and Metoprolol were killers.

I also take many meds and have anorgasmia when penetrating
my wife. I found two things very helpful. First, I use a type of
cock ring called Giddy. It's oval vs round (so it doesn't constrict
arteries) and it has nubs on top which constrict the dorsal vein
so venous leak isn't a problem. While it's not everybody's cup
of tea, after intercourse I lie on my back and wife penetrates
my anus to massage the prostate. Best orgasms of my life. There
are more details in the anorgasmia section.
78 yrs, ED for 4-5 years, currently using Trimix, Giddy

I know what you mean about COVID restrictions. I hadn't been swimming since Covid19 and maybe a little before that. Yesterday I was finally able to get into the pool after all this time! I enjoyed it, but I felt out of practice.

Just curious how you are treating your AFIB. My mother is bothered with it; tiring her out. She takes meds, but it doesn't seem to help all that much.
