How long before PDE5s (Cialis, Viagra, Levitra) stop working?

Postby EveningWood » Fri Nov 05, 2021 5:22 pm

Hi forum members,

One year ago I decided to take some action regarding my currently 16 year frustration with ED (I am 32 yrs. old currently). You can read my story here- https://www.franktalk.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=17365

Long story short, the 3 out of 4 urologist concluded that my ED was psychological (the forth was a salesman). However, I am still am probably at a tenth of the hardness I used to have at 16, and noticeably smaller erect length and girth. Which makes me think that there is probably more to it. I still haven't started however any PDE5s (want to learn as much in advance as possible).

As do like to have long term plans and have an idea of what to expect, It would be very helpful for me and other guys with no or limited PDE5 experience to know from the guys who took them for years, for how long were they enjoying the positives.

While I know everybody is different and have a different cause for their ED (vasculogenic, psychological, etc.), it would be interesting to know and compare, since someone with similar symptoms might get an idea of what to expect.

Realistically, based on what I have seen thus far in the forum - there really isn't a cure for this, just helping tools. The paved forum road seems to be pills, then injections and finally - an implant. Hopefully there are cases which somebody has been using just pills his whole life, or even restored his healthy erection.

EveningWood

I couldn't vote since they stopped working for me after around 10 years. Injections then gave me another 6 years before they stopped working.

Hey dude, just read your story.

Sounds like you're in a similar position to me.... A one-off injury and then BAM, no more erections. I've been using pills for 2 years now. Sildenafil 100mg works for me, sadly Taladafil does not.
My advice would be to try taking Taladafil before you sleep and see if you wake up in the morning with some wood - it's a way of removing psychology out of the equation and seeing what pills can do to help your physical problem. Steadily increase the dose until you find the right amount that works.

Interested to see the results of the poll. I've seen people on FT who have used pills for 15+ years and others just a year.
British, 32 yrs old. ED caused by Paraphimosis in 2019. 100mg Sildenafil for sex. Trialled Invicorp as advised by doctor in 2021 but it was too strong. Taking 50mg-75mg of Sildenafil every night at 3am to stimulate morning erections, good response so far.

Cialis 1 year. Still works for me for about 3 days after taking it.
Retired 65 y.o. Married. Moderate ED since 2019. Use constriction band ocassionately to help maintain erection, or Cialis/Viagra. Nocturnal/morning erections returning with VED usage. Lower libido than before.

Quite often it's not that PDE5i's stop working but that their side effects become too much.
45yo, venous leak. Pills increased tinnitus (very rare). Using bimix+atropine, 0.2 of:
Atropine Sulfate: 52MCG/ML, Phentolamine MES: 0.9MG/ML, Papaverine HCL: 26MG/ML

It depends, everyone is different.

In my case, 10 years (Cialis).

If an oral treatment stops working for you, don't go for the injections right away. There are currently 11 PDE-5 inhibitors available: if one oral drug stops working, just move to another oral drug. That's what I did, when Cialis stopped working for me.
Age 40. Psychogenic ED for over 20 years. Current regimen: Udenafil 200 mg, oral phentolamine mesylate 40 mg, Seredyn.

I used Viagra when it came out in 1998 at age 53, for nineteen years, until the max dose (100mg) slowly stopped working in 2017 at age 72. I'm actually still using it with Trimix (this is an "official" usage), and erections are still going strong. I have no side effects. I don't think Viagra "wears off" - I think in my case I was simply getting old! Younger FT friends might have differing data; if so, I hope they'll chime in.

EW: I'm surprised that you haven't tried a PDE5 inhibiter yet - it's four months since you introduced yourself. Maybe you're overdoing planning to the detriment of action. If a PDE5 inhibiter works, hopefully you could follow my history, using Viagra or its cheaper generic, sildenafil, for 40 years, then adding Trimix or whatever urologists have in the 2060s.

There is some opinion that keeping arteries clean with a vegetarian diet helps middle-age and late-in-life erections.
Age 78 in 2023. On testosterone replacement due to hypothalamus malfunction. (Attention depressed guys: low testosterone is a cause.) Healthy health nut but ED due to getting old. Like to keep enough cardiovascular ability to thrust for 30 min.

Hi Flavio.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

That sounds encouraging, honestly I do not look forward and want to use anything beyond orals (and have not even started them yet).

As far as I remember from reading your story, you have had a 20 year psychological ED.
So basically if a person does not have venous leakage, and the ED cause is psychological or nerve related, he could (in theory) use PDE5s for 10+ years.

Thanks for sharing, Tomas1.

That seems a decent amount of time, definitely more from the average user here.

Hi Benjohn,

Thanks for tuning in. Seems also that we are around the same age as well.

I definitely want to remove the psychological aspect away, and see just the effect from the drug. Also, 16 years of ED have most likely developed in me a psychological ED as well, so I would need regular, strong erections just to regain my confidence and battle a 10+ year depression.

Funny thing is, my libido is the same as when I was a teenager, but my Johnson cannot keep up (pun intended) with it.

Best regards,
EveningWood
