How long before PDE5s (Cialis, Viagra, Levitra) stop working?

Anything goes when it comes to ED.

For how long have you been using/have used PDE5s?

Hi Spontaneous1.

Sounds great, I was also thinking of some initial intake plan every other day or so, not a fan of medication at all.

If a PDE5 inhibiter works, hopefully you could follow my history, using Viagra or its cheaper generic, sildenafil, for 40 years, then adding Trimix or whatever urologists have in the 2060s.

There is some opinion that keeping arteries clean with a vegetarian diet helps middle-age and late-in-life erections.

Hi Martin6469.

That actually sounds pretty great and encouraging.
I suppose the reason for your ED was not venous leakage?

Regarding your question - I have actually been reading the forum since January and received many great advises both in the threads, and via PMs.

The reasons why I am postponing is that I live in a small country and we have only the main 3 PDE5s (Cialis, Viagra, Levitra) and perhaps one injectable drug offered in a ED clinic (not sure exactly what they offer). Basically, I need to know as much as I can in order to maximise my results given the limited medication.
Not to mention, ED in my country is associated with a lot of stigma, most men don't do anything about it and urologists do not have the necessary knowledge for it (according to them, it's always psychological/imaginary).
Also, there is no woman beside me and given that meds have limited time span of usage, would be better to start when I am seriously dating someone.

Most likely, I will have a one-off experiment for a week, see how it goes and how do PDE5s affect me. Afterwards, will cut them off and resume when I start dating.

Hi frwmw1.

Seems like one of the main reasons why men here have switched to injectables.

Would be interesting to know can a person use a fixed dose for decades, if he does not have a venous leakage.

Most forms of ED in my opinion are a form of venous leakage. Blood is escaping from the erectile tissues due to one or a number of the long list of dysfunctions that cause this to occur. Some of these may only be able to be seen or examined at the histological level, so it is not possible to see the exact malfunction with any current testing method other than to say you have CVOD.

It may be possible that someone may have a satisfactory response from a fixed dose for a number of years possibly even 10. But for most, asking for that to be the case for multiple decades will not be possible simply due to the fact that we are aging and changes are occurring at the cellular level, slowly making processes that enable good erectile function to be less effective or weaker. Greater amounts of the drugs that boost these processes will no doubt be required until they stop helping to any significant degree.
Given that some of us have led lives that will speed up the these undesirable changes, particularly those that have acquired diabetes 2 and the damage this causes to the cell via excessive oxidative stress, hypoxia and other factors, the window that these drugs may work will be even shorter.

The healthier and fitter you are, the greater the chance they will work longer.

Oh man...

I had never thought that the blue miracle pill would have stopped working. I started using it as a booster actually after an older friend of mine recommended to me for a girl I was going to bang. I did not have erection problems back then (I am 36 now). I had some degree of pre-ejaculation. When I used the pill, I had amazing results. Very reliable, consistent, no side effects... 25mg 15 minutes before sex gave me rock hard erections for the next 4 hours, until one day.

For me, when it stopped (after 7 years), the dosage did nothing. Even 100mg was like nothing. Right now, I use Cialis 20mg. I am getting great results, but they are not as reliable as the blue pill was. 20mg Cialis gives me erections for the whole week almost, but again I need constant stimulation and I sometimes lose it changing positions etc. I know Flavio is very big on trying different pills, so I am hoping to see how effective/reliable Udenafil can be, but I do not want to order it from Russia or Korea for now...

It is very annoying and I hope something else hits the market for those who do not get the results they use to get.

Hi Simbarn.

Perhaps the most severe ones are caused by venous leak? There is another severe physiological reason - for example I have seen posts from older gentlemen here that had nerves removed due to prostatectomy, having no VL before that, and basically they seem to be the ones that respond great to lower dosages of either PDE5s or injections. In theory, shouldn't those guys be able to use the PDE5s and injections the longest, with the smallest dosages?

it is possible also that nerve damage (not sure on the penis or taint) also causing some of the percentage of EDs.
I basically think that damaged nerves send weak arousal signals to the brain, which in its turn sends lower blood amount, that the one needed for a full erection.

Of course, I am not a medical professional or in that filed, so it would be great if somebody who is or has this as a reason for his erectile dysfunction to share his experience.

P.S. Regarding your recommendations - I fully agree. It is sad however, if you have been living your life healthy and exercised, and still have severe ED.

Hi EveningWood,

I've taken the opposite viewpoint - use it or lose it.

I understand that my ED can get worse due to oxidative stress caused by a lack of erections. A lack of erections can also cause shrinkage.

This is why I'm taking Viagra every night and I'll continue to do so in the hope that I prevent my ED from getting worse.

I don't believe that our bodies become resistant to medication. I believe that our erectile dysfunction simply gets worse due to oxidative stress and the original underlying issue progressing.

Happy to be corrected on this if someone has different information.
British, 32 yrs old. ED caused by Paraphimosis in 2019. 100mg Sildenafil for sex. Trialled Invicorp as advised by doctor in 2021 but it was too strong. Taking 50mg-75mg of Sildenafil every night at 3am to stimulate morning erections, good response so far.

I strongly agree with the "Use it or Lose it." statement. It needs to get erect regularly by some method.

I used V with terrible side effects and immediately went to Cialis about 10-11 years ago and started with just 5mg doing the trick.. over the years I increased to 20-25 mg Cialis and it would fade away before I would reach the big O. Went to urologist and his opinion was that your body don’t gain resistance to pde5s but that whatever problem you have(Ven. Leak in my situation)gets worse over time until the point they don’t work. I went to a low dose injections and started with 10 units and am now using 20 units plus still throwing in a 5-10mg Cialis for a little fuller glans. Been doing injections now for a year and beginning to get a little scar tissue on both sides.. also just tired of the inconvenience and limited use of injections. Appointment this next Tuesday where I’ll begin my bionic journey.

When I first used Viagra 50mg would work well. Within a year and a half had to bump the dose to 100mg. Then it was the morning after migraines, and in another year even 100mg would fail to get me an erection.
Started injections, those worked well for a couple years but not being one to stick a needle in my dick always used an auto injector. For a couple of years injections worked then began to fail. Upped dose to the point my dick would be sore for a day or two after using. Moved me to QuadMix. By the time the first order of it was done it was failing.
Now two years implanted and wish I'd have done that before the needles.
