trazodone - anxiety, ED, PE treatment?

Postby Implant_Curious » Sun Jul 18, 2021 5:20 am

Interested in whether anyone has used trazodone as a treatment for anxiety/depression, and noted improvements in ED and PE? I know it is associated with improvement in erectile quality. But not sure about PE. Considering switching from zoloft.
35 gay male, top/vers. ED complicated by long-term SSRI and quetiapine use as well as smoking previously. Currently on 5mg cialis daily. Also tried sildenafil 25-100mg on demand, all successful.

That's the first time I've heard Trazodone could help with ED. I thought it was in the category of old timey boner killers like Prozac? Called SSRI Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. I've taken both drugs for over 10 years and experienced ED before I had an RP for prostate cancer. Interesting.
RP April 2017. Tried Trimix once. On daily Tadalafil but not much help, if any. 71 years old in 2023.

Trazodone could improve nocturnal tumescence. There are some case of priapism reported (1 out of 6000-10000). I read a paper where trazodone + sildenafil has been tried for ED vs sildenafil only with better outcomes reported but not enough for being statistically significant.

I may be wrong but the only SSRI approved for PE is dapoxetine. It received EMA (EU regulatory agency) but I'm not sure if it's FDA approved and available in the US.

The only penis related effects of Trazodone that I have heard of is the occasional priapism.

My S.O. takes it occasionally to help with anxiety and insomnia. She needs to be careful though, as it can totally turn her sleep/wake cycle upsidedown. Literally sleeping 16-18 hrs a day and being awake 4-8 at night.

When she takes it I always joke "See you in 3 days", unfortunately it's too accurate.
Age: 39, Diabetic (well controlled) HBP (since teens, less well controlled, but ok),
mild ED for 3 years, l arginine l citrulline and norvaline (amino acid stack) helped.
Pills: ineffective. Started trimix: 6/24/18, EXTREMELY effective.

I saw a urologist that said he and his fellow residents used to call it “traza-bone” for its side effects.

I took trazodone to help with sleep. I have DSPD—delayed sleep phase disorder. My PCP prescribed it and I was taking it for about a year with great results. My sleep was back to normal, and so was my life.

And then I got Peyronie’s. Long story short, it was caused by trazodone. My surgeon reckons that I was so knocked out from the trazodone that when I got a nocturnal erection, I rolled over onto it and damaged my penis. From that point on it was a year of hell, and the only way I could beat Peyronies was to get an implant.

So, bottom line, trazodone ruined my life.

Take with caution.

How many mg per night were you taking?

50 mg, which I believe is the lowest dose (at least recommended for insomnia)

Yes, it's a low dose. Usually priapism with trazodone occurs at higher dosage and in young healthy people. If you are 40+ and already suffering from ED caused by vascular issues (ex. venous leakages) chances of priapism are almost zero.
You're story seems very unlucky because, correct me if I'm wrong, you've got a sort of fracture or a damage because you were so knocked out you couldn't realize what was happening.

Exactly.
Before, I had zero symptoms of ED. In fact, I got hard almost too easily. At the movie theatres, a restaurant, etc.

So yeah, the trazodone put me to sleep so much that when I did get a nighttime erection, I rolled over onto it with all my weight, didn’t realize it, and bent it. Within days I had a 60° curve and a lot of pain

I tried Trazodone to see if it would help with my ed. I was traveling and having(attempting to have) sex every day. Was going to test it over the month of April and take it every night. Was performing fairly well the month before in March. Initially performed well during the beginning of April. However, started having issues being able to perform not getting fully erect. Stopped taking it after 20 days because my ability to obtain a good erection was suffering seriously. Had decent and reliable erections the month before in March and seemed to get better erections after I stopped taking Trazodone.

Having taken Xanax before for sleep only to find out that it was killing my ability to get a good erection I was feeling many of the same symptoms with the trazadone as I was from the xanax. It also did not seem to help much with my sleep.
