Refractory period

Postby Flavio » Wed Aug 05, 2020 7:26 am

The refractory period occurs right after you reach your sexual climax.

It refers to the time between an orgasm and when you feel ready to be sexually aroused again.

Is it possible for men to safely and effectively suppress the refractory period? Yes, I believe it is possible thanks to my regimen (PDE-5 inhibitor + alpha blocker) but this regimen is far from perfect or infallible.

A few days ago, I had sex with a new partner and I was a bit anxious. Even though I had taken my ED meds, I wasn't able to perform at first and lost my erection. But because I am 43 y.o. and experience does matter here, I was able to relax, regain my erection and penetrate. Sex was great and I was hard all the time and was even able to ejaculate three times. I could have gone on the entire night but I decided to stop because too much of a good thing is a bad thing (at least, that's what I believe in).

This show us that:

a) Oral drugs are excellent but they are only erection facilitators, arousal is always essential;

b) Anxiety is a major cause of erection failure but that is no reason to panic, it is a perfectly normal biological reaction;

c) I wouldn't be able to get these results on one drug alone, combination is the big secret here;

d) It will, however, increase the risk of side effects, esp. headaches, hypotension and nasal congestion - older men and heart patients should never try this combination.

e) Reactions to these drugs vary greatly, not all PDE-5 inhibitors worked for me (Cialis and Viagra worked great for me, Levitra was useless);

f) I don't know the science behind the refractory period but I'm guessing that it is caused by an increase of sympathetic activity and an alpha blocker may be helpful here.

As always, consult your doctor (urologist) before you decide to try this or any other ED regimen.

I know nothing about penile implants but I suppose they also allow you to perform without limitations...

Yes to a degree an implant let’s you go even during the refactory period, with me at least for several minutes after cumming my cock is so hyper sensitive that it’s almost painful to keep going. If we wait a few minutes some light foreplay of what ever your into to keep her going we’ll go back to intercourse until she’s had enough

There are limitations. But loss of erection is not one of them.

During refractory periods, hormone levels change. Energy level typically falls off. Desire for sex typically falls off and desire to roll over and take a nap increases. Tumescence of your spongiosum tissues definitely falls off. But the implant endures as stiff as ever, holding your penis erect.

Drugs are not necessary to have the effects/experience you reported in the original post. But I suppose they help...a lot. There are many reports of men able to hold off on ejaculation, even while having an orgasm and repeat this any number of times. It takes concentration and practice. (Admission: I have not been able to do this...yet, but have read credible reports.)

The body releases a surge of Prolactin immediately after ejaculation. This is the major player in the refractory period. Prolactin in the right amount is a strong erection inhibitor and lessens sexual sensation. However, I am sure there are a number of other factors that contribute. Interesting post Flávio.
Cabergoline has been suggested as a drug that can lessen the refractory period for some guys, as it inhibits prolactin release. :D
Age 57, ED issues for 15-20 years. Testosterone replacement with Enanthate and Ovidrel. Currently using generic Tadalafil 2.5mgs and Resveratrol daily.

Yes, I tried it once: a nasal spray called Dostinex. It is one of the new treatments being tested for ED.
