35 years ago I had Emergency Surgery for Hemorrhoids.
Was told by surgeon that they will never come back.
5 years ago, after Prostate Removal Surgery, I had Pinpoint 38 days Radiation treatment to make sure Margins were clear.
Now, 35 years later, my Hemorrhoids have returned.
I cannot remember who, but I remember a Dr telling me that Hemorrhoid Treatment was either more difficult or impossible after Post Prostate Removal Radiation Treatment.
Anybody on here know anything about this topic and/or any Dr in Houston area to discuss it with ????

I had hemorrhoid surgery about 30 years ago. They're back! They've been back for a good while. I haven't had radiation so I have no 1st hand on that. My father had radiation for prostate cancer and they did cause considerable damage to surrounding tissue so hemorrhoid surgery may have been an issue for him. However, it is my understanding that they have gotten significantly better with the radiation so that they are able to be more precise, use less and damage less surrounding tissue. So maybe the hemorrhoid surgery wouldn't be such a big deal now days.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to give you a good answer.

I would say whoever told you that surgery for them after a prostatectomy is full of shit. I had a prostatectomy in 2009, then hemorrhoids from hell in 2012 and surgery by Dr. Silverman in St. Louis for them. I saw several other quacks before Silverman that left me a bloody sore mess but did not fix the problem as they returned worse each time. Silverman has one of the most efficient medical practices I have ever seen. Surgery was fast. Recovery sucks down there for a couple weeks as you know but he does good work. Do not allow anyone to do the rectal resection surgery where they shove a tool up your ass and shorten your rectum with a million staples in a circle. I forget what it is called but it causes a lot of people problems that need more surgery to correct. One doctor was going to do that on me and aborted it in the operating room. When I saw Silverman, he told me that I was lucky he bailed because it would have been the wrong surgery AND cause me a lot of problems down the road. d

Thanks for all the replies.
As BLDOINK suggests - its not the Prostatecotomy that makes hemorrhoid surgery difficult, but what the radiation does to the tissue that I seem to remember the doctor telling me....
