Hi! I am scheduled for my AMS 700LGX on 6.12 with Dr Eid in NY. I am traveling to NY from NC. I will be staying at a hotel down the block from the hospital where the procedure will be performed. There is no nerve block and I was told my RX will be Tylenol 3. Has anyone else done this with Dr Eid and what was your pain level.

Re: Concerned About Pain
Welcome brother. I'm a long way from NY or NC but I do have the same implant that you are scheduled for.
I'm actually a bit surprised that Dr Eid is doing an LGX for you as the Coloplast Titan seems to be his preferred device.
In any case you have arguably one the best surgeons in the world and I'm sure he'll do everything to limit any pain.
My surgery in Australia was done under general anaesthesia but I had no additional nerve block to my knowledge.
Immediately post op there was soreness and discomfort but no really strong pain. I may have been given oxycodone at that point.
And I was offered those by nurses during my stay, but I refused as I was fine with only ibuprofen and paracetamol (acetaminophen).
I was also prescribed opioid painkillers similar to oxycodone to use at home but I have never needed them.
I was in hospital a little over 24 hours and walking around the morning after surgery with only relatively mild discomfort.
I believe Tylenol 3 contains 300 mg acetaminophen (pain/fever reduction) and 30 mg codeine (opioid narcotic).
Everyone is different but that's actually quite a strong concoction and I would think more than enough in most cases.
If you are considering walking back to your hotel I would say it really depends on how long after surgery.
I would have been OK to walk a city block after 24 hours, but taking it very easy. YMMV.
During early recovery at home pain did increase, especially sitting down and in most sleeping positions. Not pleasant but manageable.
Best wishes for your surgery. The implant has been life changing for me.

My experience was the same as LGX's - basically used Tylenol and rest. Also used cold compresses (ice packs too much) and a donut pillow to sit on in the car. Yes - there is discomfort, some will describe it as pain, but it was sure worth it!! Stay the course!
Original member name 'SteveD' - RP in 2019 / AMS implant 2022 / saved by supportive wife and great medical teams at Johns Hopkins and Mayo / PSA rising again - waiting results of rad tx and 6 months ADT. Stay the course!!

Re: Concerned About Pain
Don't judge by my experience please, but I was sore for weeks. Issued hydrocodone and tramadol for pain which did nothing but make me nauseous. Had to resort to Percocet for a few days. Once doc cleared me to bathe, a hot bath in the morning was my best pain relief. I have always been jealous of the guys who have little or no pain following their implant.
Best of luck on your surgery.

I had surgery with Dr. Eid a little over a year ago, and I experienced very little pain overall. I took one Percocet the first night because I expected discomfort, but honestly, I never really needed it.
Ice packs plus alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol were more than enough. I was genuinely surprised by how minimal the pain was.
My schedule was:
* Take ibuprofen
* 3 hours later, take Tylenol
* 3 hours later, take ibuprofen again (6 hours since the last ibuprofen dose)
* 3 hours later, take Tylenol again (6 hours since the last Tylenol dose)
That way, one or the other is always close to peak effectiveness.
Sleep as much as you can.
And ice constantly—seriously, ice is your best friend. That gave me the most relief by far. Don’t worry too much about overdoing it; you’ll be so bundled up with gauze and dressings that direct skin exposure isn’t really an issue.
I’m local, so I didn’t have to travel far for surgery. My car ride home was about 40 minutes and was no problem at all.
If you’re flying, I’d recommend keeping your feet up as much as possible. If you have a long walk or terminal transfer, consider using a wheelchair—not because you won’t be able to walk, but because the less time you spend on your feet during those first few days, the less swelling and discomfort you’re likely to have.
I kept a journal documenting my experience; the link is in my signature below. Feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns.
You’ll be in very good hands. Dr. Eid and his entire staff are fantastic.
