Viagra users - questions

Postby RJ_in_Pa » Wed Oct 29, 2025 9:11 pm

Guys,

Questions for those that used to use pills and those that still do.

I have recovered some of my ability to get an erection since my RP. I can get hard enough to get off while masturbating and sometimes, while using a ring, I can actually have sex with my wife. It is very inconsistent, though. I’m wondering if Viagra can give me that little extra help I need to make things happen more consistently.

Before I started using injections, I tried pills and they did nothing for me. Now, looking back, maybe I didn’t know how to use them. I would take the pill and wait for the erection that never happened.

Now, after some research, I believe after taking the pill, there should be some foreplay, maybe long term deeply engaged foreplay.

Questions:
1. Do you have to take them (Viagra) several days before they start to really work? In other words, is it not uncommon for them not to work on the first try.

2, How much/how long should it take for the foreplay to make things happen?

Any and all comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
RJ

The pills can help your erections but there needs to be stimulation and arousal.

Sure, give pills a try. Try them all: Viagra, levitra, cialis (both daily cialis and situational).

I found that daily cialis helped my erections both when having sex and nocturnal erections (morning wood) which are good for penile health.

If you are in the USA and pills at your pharmacy are expensive ask your doctor to call in the prescription to Mark Cuban’s “CostPlus Drugs”. It’s a legitimate online pharmacy. My 90 day supply of 10mg Tadalafil (Cialis) is under $20 shipped.

I use at night to help with nocturnal erections. Sildenafil (20mg) at Costco is $7.

I have not had any luck getting hard with full-on 100mg dose. Trimix is my go to.

Stop using VIAGRA, its a nasty drug. Levitra was my go too when pills worked. Some daily use cialis is good for the tube.

RJ_in_Pa, I'm not a great fan of taking anything but I've had an on and off relationship with Viagra for many years.
Post implant I still use it, but very much in moderation, and only intermittently for a "boost". I can successfully have sex and orgasm without it. With an implant obviously I don't need help getting an erection, but now I take it to help with glans engorgement and I also find that I can get to orgasm more easily, and the climax is sometimes more intense. I only take 25mg, which is enough to do that job for me. I buy generic Sildanefil which is relatively inexpensive in such small doses. Here in Australia you need a prescription and it's about $20 AUD for a pack of 12 x 100mg tablets. I cut those into quarters so it gives me 48 doses. PIV sex for us is usually 3 times a week, so lasts me a minimum of 16 weeks. In practice I only use it once or twice a week so a pack actually lasts longer.

As others have said they only work if you are aroused, which is a combination of psychological desire and physical elements.
If you are not feeling like sex for whatever reason, then it's unlikely to produce an erection.
I can't remember any delayed reaction when I first tried it. I'm pretty sure it got me hard straight away.
Before my RP and resulting ED I had fairly good natural erectile function but it had started to wane a little, possibly age related.
So the Viagra served more or less as a guarantee of reliable erections back then.
With post RP ED the Viagra did absolutely nothing for me, and and neither did any other pill or conservative treatment.

I usually aim to take it 45 minutes before starting any foreplay, but I find that it often kicks in after about 30 minutes.
My original doctor I think said allow an hour and I've often read that an hour is recommended.
The actual dose needed will be different for everyone. I suggest starting with 25 mg and see what happens.
Then gradually increase it until it works for you.

Over time I've read more and more about negative side effects, and I don't know if I will continue with it in the long term.
At nearly 8 months post op with my implant I'm still in semi recovery mode and I'm only using it until I feel that I have fully healed.
I'm allowing 12 months for that and I'll review the situation then. I'm hoping to eventually ditch it altogether.
