Not sure what to do. 20 years old

Postby youngaccount12 » Thu May 04, 2023 1:34 am

New user here looking for some advice.
I'm 20 years old and have been struggling with erections for quite a few years now. Up until earlier this year, I could always easily get an erection when I was with a girl pretty much without fail. Now, however, I've been struggling to get hard at all whether I'm alone or with a girl. This is pretty embarrassing as I am in college and this is taking a toll on my self esteem. I've been avoiding even pursuing girls out of fear that I won't be able to get it up. The strange thing is, I'll go through periods of a few weeks where I'm super horny and can easily get erections all day. But then suddenly I'll go back to feeling completely numb down there and not getting hard at all.

I went to a doctor a few months ago and he seemed surprised a guy my age was bringing this up lol. He ordered a total testosterone, vitamin D, CBC, and some other blood tests where everything came back as normal (and by normal I mean actually normal, not borderline low, it was 600+). He basically chalked it up to anxiety and told me it's all mental. He said he wouldn't send me to a urologist because there is nothing wrong with me. He also said he would never prescribe viagra for a guy my age (I kinda got the vibe he thought I was faking to just get a script). His solution was just to relax and stop worrying about it.

I don't think I have performance anxiety because I can barely even jerk off. This left me feeling even more confused because I have no idea what is going on with my dick. After doing some research I found this website and the thought of getting an implant terrifies me. I've been stressing about this pretty much everyday just hoping my dick goes back to normal. I'm just unsure as to what do right now, any advice is appreciated. I've read online I should get other hormones checked (free T, prolactin, SHBG, estradiol) and maybe check out a possible pelvic floor problem? I'd love to hear from some other young guys and older guys who have wisdom about this sort of thing. Am I fucked guys?
Thanks

You should definitely get a second opinion, it's always a sensible thing to do.

I don't like the fact that your doctor was surprised. ED can affect men of all ages, not just senior guys. My ED problems (sexual performance anxiety) started when I was about your age.

There's a good chance your condition is psychogenic, don't underestimate anxiety: it is a normal biological reaction but it may have a drastic impact on your performance, even if it's just masturbation.

So, my advice: go see another doctor, do a new series of tests and read as much as you can on this subject (I strongly recommend the books of urologist Tom F. Lue). The more you know about sex, the less stressful it will be.

I'm guessing you're suffering from college and social related stress. It can easily feed on itself. This will create a worsening cycle and possibly lead to CPPS or Hard Flaccid. But I'm no doctor, so yeah, get a 2nd openion fron a medical professional, preferably someone specializing in mens sexual health.

Thanks guys I appreciate the responses so far.

Do you think it could really be psychological? Admittedly this did all start after I was going through a period of a lot of stress and was feeling pretty depressed. I feel a lot better mentally now but the erection problems are still here. The only thing really stressing me out now is my dick. I do wake up with morning wood about every other day but it's still not 100% hard, it's more like a 60% hardness. If it really is psychogenic not sure how to move forward as I don't know what else I can do.

Go to the largest urology practice in your area. They will have a mens' sexual health urologist. (Not all urologists are interested in our ED problems, which can be complicated; many only work on "plumbing.")
Age 79 in 2024. On testosterone replacement due to hypothalamus malfunction. (Attention depressed guys: low testosterone is a cause.) Healthy health nut but ED due to getting old. Like to keep enough cardiovascular ability to thrust for 30 min.

I'd avise you to look in to the "angion method" on reddit. You can basically train to increase the bloodflow to your dick.
It's not dangerous like the other PE crap, and it actually works and is healthy for your dick if done correctly. Wish i found it years ago.
