Clomipramine HCL???

Hello to the community!

I've suffered from severe PE my whole life and it has greatly impacted my dealing with women. I've been looking for help online and it's hard to know what will work for me but I know for sure that these "edging" and "start/stop" techniques don't work (for me). When I say severe I mean I can't last a second...I ejaculate upon penetration.

I've never told anyone as it is so embarrassing. Out of desperation and wanting to be able to be in a relationship and have intercourse with my partner, I sought help from a men's health clinic in my area. The doctor prescribed Clomipramine HCL (brand name: Anafranil). I took it once but did not like the way it made me feel. The doctor indicated that I need to take it regularly for it to work. At this point I'm so desperate to be rid of this condition that I'm willing to bite the bullet if it means I'll get better.

Has anyone taken this medication before and what was your experience with it? Did it help? How much were you taking? For how long? Etc...

Any other info would help as well, in terms of other meds or doctor recommendations.

Thank you in advance

I have no experience with the drug or PE. I have more the opposite problem.

Here is one study on the drug that's about 25 years old: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8808861/. One thing that stood out to me was "Clomipramine inhibited nocturnal penile tumescence in all subjects." There are links to related articles at the bottom of the study. I didn't read any of them.

Good luck.

This is an old school antidepressant. I think the other options out there now (the well known SSRIs) are better for all things, whether depression, anxiety or PE.

A previous post mentioned Paroxetine. It looks to be more effective than the sertralineI take but it's not advisable for those over 60. Lets me out. With sertraline sometimes I can last forever but most times 5 -15 .

Your situation with severe premature ejaculation (PE) sounds challenging, and it's understandable that you're seeking effective solutions. Clomipramine (Anafranil) is an antidepressant that has been used off-label to treat PE because it can delay ejaculation. However, like many medications, it may have side effects, and it's important to discuss these with your doctor.

Medication Experience: People's experiences with Clomipramine can vary. Some find it effective in managing PE, while others may experience side effects that make it uncomfortable. It usually takes some time to notice the benefits.

Regular Use: As with many similar medications, regular use is often necessary to see improvement. Your doctor is right in suggesting a consistent regimen for evaluating its effectiveness.

Other Treatments: Besides medication, PE can sometimes be managed with behavioral techniques, therapy, or a combination of treatments. Consulting with a sexual health specialist or a therapist experienced in sexual dysfunction might provide additional strategies.

Open Discussion with Doctor: Keep an open line of communication with your healthcare provider about your experiences, concerns, and any side effects you're experiencing. They can adjust the treatment as needed.

Exploring Options: If Clomipramine doesn't work for you, there are other medications and therapies available. Each individual responds differently, so it might take some time to find the right approach for you.

Remember, seeking help and being willing to try different solutions is a positive step toward managing PE and improving your quality of life.
