Does counselling help or its a waste?

Postby Pso13yr » Sat Aug 03, 2024 4:09 am

Hi ftkers,

I am 28 and i have had ed since forever. You can say mor than a decade. Recently i got diagnosed with a urinaty tract infection which was majorly the culprit behind my ed. After treatment of uti i am able to experience hard errections which were missing from such a long time. Not always but many times I have spontaneous and morning errections.

Basically i had this problem since a long time and had multiple failures with multiple partners so i really have performance anxiety! I am not sure whether I would be able to get it up or not! So due to this fear I usually distance myself from being in a situation which can lead to a sexual encounter.

Can a therapist help in this case?? Even if my physical factor is not completely healed i am sure that my anxiety has a lot to do with my errections.
For example I was hard in the morning for atleast 10 mins. In the afternoon i met a girl we started making out and I had nothing down there! My brain is not ready to accept that the problem is cured to a manageable extent! I want to experience sex but really not sure what can help in this case.

The longer you avoid the situation the the worse you'll feel the situation is once you eventually have sex with someone. I'm going to try counselling soon as I do believe part of my issue is performance also, I'm not sure if it works but it can't hurt to try can it? Hopefully it can at least help with the anxiety side of having sex. If you're anxious before sex you'll almost certainly not be able to perform to the best of your ability, so counselling could be a thing that helps with that.

For therapy, I would prefer someone who specializes in CBT.

Hi, I had 6 months of CBT and it didn't help me, I do believe you have to really be open and try to work with the therapist. I suffer from ED and lifelong premature ejacuation. Other than that, there's no trauma or depression. I have performance anxiety because it genuinely doesn't work.

I think you'd know within the first two sessions if its for you or not.

I've opted for a penile implant, I know it's not a magic pill that'll make my problems go away, but it'll definitely make the worst aspects improve.
