how long after RP surgery did your recovery plateau?

A very new area of interest is penile physical therapy. From exercises to stretching to vibrational therapy, it's all new and still being studied. This is where we can share techniques, exercises and successes.

how long after RP surgery did your recovery plateau?

Postby morse73 » Mon Jul 03, 2017 7:57 pm

I'm a few weeks away from 1 yr post RP and pretty happy with my erection therapy so far. A few weeks ago I was able to have intercourse without any meds. It wasn't real hard and didn't last too long but felt great both physically and emotionally. I'm going to continue injecting for a while for the therapeutic value (and better erection), maybe a couple times a month.

I'm curious what others have seen in terms of their recovery hitting a plateau. How long after your surgery did you stop seeing erection improvements in hardness, lasting time, etc., without meds?

Thanks for that info. Were your nerve bundles spared 100%?

My erections 3 months after the prostatectomy were the same as they were at 7years later when I got an implant. Pills, pumps, injections and combos of them all. 3 years after the prostatectomy I received a copy of the pathology that had samples of the nerves which had cancer in them ( getting to be a reoccurring theme with me lately) so from that I know there was no nerve sparing. Doctors kept telling me to wait 2 years and all will get better. I did, it didn't. Doctors told me nerves find each other and reconnect. They didn't. My first contact with Dr. Francois Eid was over the prostatectomy. After telling me why I should have had it, he explained in nerve sparing they peel the prostate like an onion. Nerves get twisted, pulled, stretched, damaged. They may recover, they may never, they may recover partly. He and another doctor quoted studies that were also published by the department of health that stated that 80+% of men who have had prostatectomies will have ED 2 years post surgery and by the 4th year 95% had worsened from moderate to severe ED. You may be able to find the study again. I used to have it on the computer a dropped and broke the hard drive. NIH I think. If I had known that I would have never had the prostatectomy though Eid was right, I would have died a slow painful death with PSA rising rapidly at 3/4 point every 2 weeks and later learning it was in nerves. Medicine today is a business just like selling cars and most doctors will tell you any damn thing that makes you feel good about your surgery as long as it keeps customers coming in the door. When I asked one doctor about that, he was candid enough to tell me they had 2 semesters teaching how to keep patients coming back and how to make them want procedures by only disclosing the best possible outcomes except the form before surgery that you sign but nobody reads. I've been lucky to have 4 doctors like that through the years. I appreciate their honesty regardless of the fact they tell me things you really do not want to be true. Back to work.

Morse73, are you still on this board? You are my ED/RP Doppelganger!

I am now at the point in time when you posted in 2017 (you were almost one year post-surgery then). All of your benchmarks with Trimix, Sildenafil, etc are the one I have achieved in the same timeframe as yours.

I'd like to hear what's happening "erection wise" over the last two years for you.

I had bi-lateral nerve sparing surgery too. Never got a natural erection after that or even a quiver. Tried ED pill but didn't help. Tried vacuum but it was awkward and painful (tight band on penis). Tried Bixmix injections with minimal dosage and it worked fine. Took 3 months to get to the Bimix injections by that time I suffered some "smooth muscle" damage on my penis so now I have a curve as the top left side of my penis as it does not properly inflate when I have an erection. It doesn't interfere with intercourse but looks strange to me as my penis had a near perfect shape until then. I get about a 90% percentage erection with Bimix.

Wife and I no longer have sex as she is not interested. I use electro-stim which my wife encourages (anything to keep me from bugging her for sex). LOL Oh by the way I have anorgasmia as a result of the surgery. I understand that 30-40% of R.P. surgeries end up with anorgasmia (inability or very, very difficult to have an orgasm. Electro-stim seems to affect nerves that are not damaged and helps, in my case, to improve my Bimix erections to 100% while I am attached to the electro-stim device. My resulting, I hate to call it an orgasm, payoff (about 20% of the time using my electro-stem sessions) is a wave of pleasurable sensations. I don't refer to it as an orgasm but just call it pleasure waves. No big build up and explosion like a normal orgasm.

I don't recall my surgeon mentioning Anorgasmia but he did spend time telling me orgasms are still possible without an erection. I tried other sex toys but electro-stim (estim) works best for me. It takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours to get a pleasure wave (20% ofthe attempts).

For me anyway, I have to stimulate my brain with porn or literotica along with using the estim device. After watching so much porn since my R.P. it is really difficult to find anything that arouses my brain and probably accounts for my low success rate. I inject twice a week and use the esteem device right after. Estim, for me anyway, is easier when working with an erection although estim works with no erection too. It's just that I have more to work with when attaching the electrodes. It's more difficult to attach the electrodes if I am flaccid.
Retired. R.P. June 2016 at UCSF. Bilateral nerve sparing robotic surgery. Use .15cc of Bimix twice weekly. Still have some incontinence and not improving. Other side effects: anorgasmia & decreased penis sensitivity.
