New guy intro

Hi all,

I’m Jeff and I’ll be 53 years old on Jan 9. I had my prostate removed about 2 months ago due to prostate cancer and still waiting and hoping for some sexual function to return. My surgeon was able to perform bilateral nerve sparing but he says it will be 12-18 months before we will know if it worked.

In the meantime, he has me taking 40mg of sildenafil daily. This hasn’t had any effect on erections but I guess it helps increase blood flow. I’m starting Trimix injections in about a week with my teaching session scheduled for Friday. I picked up my prescription from the compounding pharmacy yesterday.

I’m hoping that being on this forum will help me with the whole trial and error process that goes with injections. I’ve been reading the posts on the injections board and there is definitely a ton of info there.

Welcome to Frank Talk. If you find it one half as helpful as I have, you will have discovered a tremendous resource in helping you through your post-prostatectomy journey. The sharing and caring from these guys is wonderful. I can't imagine going through this alone.

I hope injections are a viable treatment for you, as they are for many. I personally think you're smart to deal with ED early. There was no way I was going to wait 18 months to probably discover that my dick was still not working, and that by then it had lost even more size to atrophy.

Welcome to the forum. I pray your journey through this process will bring success and satisfaction with minimal frustration. It's encouraging that you have a doctor that wishes to address the ED issues early.

While others don't agree, I believe a VED is also useful in preserving penile size although it's not to be used on the same day as an injection. You might want to ask your doctor if he/she thinks it's worthwhile adding it to the mix.

Yeah I agree Bob. I was fortunate to be able to start rehab as early as I did. My URO said to wait until I “wasn’t pissing myself” haha. Fortunately, I have had virtually no continence issues. I wore pads for the first week after the catheter was out because I wasn’t sure what I would be dealing with, but stopped when I realized they were always dry when I removed them.

Welcome to Frank Talk, Jeff. Like the others, I want to commend you and your urologist for being so proactive in dealing with your erectile dysfunction. I'm convinced that getting your groove back as soon as possible is critically important to both your physical and mental health.

I've been injecting Trimix successfully for just over seven years. Check my signature and you can see the distilled version of my case study. As I understand the biology of all this, penis injection protocol has a very high success rate unless there are other issues such as venous leakage. That being said, there are several variables that you may need to consider as you begin this protocol. (1) There are numerous combinations/ratios of the various ingredients in BiMix, Trimix, and Quadmix. I've been lucky that the first one we tried worked from Day 1 without any side effects. That's not always the case. Sometimes folks have to fiddle with the formula to find the right one that works for them. (2) Often the biggest issue seems to be the dosage. My uro started me at 30 units and I lowered that to 5 then back up to 10 to find the "Goldilocks" dosage. You will likely do the same. (3) Technique is important. Edu-mah-cate yourself on the anatomy of the penis. Know what you're trying to stick. Follow the uro's directions to the letter. If you have any questions about technique, ask us. We'll be happy to share. You will find numerous explanations on technique in the Injections Forum, including my own 2 cents. (4) Be patient. You may or may not have a "I'm 19 again without the stupid" erection on your first try. Don't get frustrated. Keep trying.

Two more things: (1) Don't be shy with your doctor. Tell him/her what's going on; ask questions; and report unsatisfactory results right away. (2) Don't hesitate to ask the guys on this site about anything that's going on. We're all in this together. At the same time, remember that we don't give medical advice here. We just share our experience. Always listen to the doc.

Welshman, I did have strong erections before and my URO also mentioned that and my age as big positives. I also have no other risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, smoking etc. I’ve been married to the same wonderful woman for 30 years and she has been my rock through all this.

We are definitely keeping the romance alive. In fact, since I had no continence issues we were back in the bedroom within a month after my surgery haha. We both discovered that an erection is not a requirement to make love (this is frank talk right haha?). Orgasm is definitely different with no ejaculation but I wouldn’t say that it is less pleasurable. In fact, in some instances I’d say it was more pleasurable.

Antelope, thanks for the injection advice. Based on my research, it seems that my URO has started me on a fairly low strength trimix (16.7 mg; .56 mg; 5.6mcg). He wants me to start with 25 units. Hopefully, I’ll be as lucky as you, but am prepared for the likelihood that we will have to fiddle with it. I’m lucky my doc is very easy to communicate with and always responds to emails within a few hours usually.

Hi Jeff,
Welcome to the group. I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2014 and had a robotic Prostatectonmy in Oct. 2014. Thankfully, I didn't have any residual side effects from that surgery, but I had ED from age 30 and am now 61. I had implant sugery just over 3 months ago. I hope you won't need one and the other treatments, as well as time to fully recover from your Prostatectonmy will take care of your current erection problem. Whatever the future holds, there are guys here who have walked in your shoes and are happy to help you. Best wishes.
