New Member getting implant

Postby Limpy2016 » Mon Oct 24, 2016 11:24 am

Hello, i'm David, 61 years, i've done the viagra, the trimix, at this point i've asked my doctor for a 3 pc penile implant, im scheduled to go in tomorrow ( 1st day of World Series) .. shoot :-) , my Urologist is using AMS products, and says, the rep will be there during surgery,
im getting conflicting information from the innerweb, that some places can do this as an outpatient, 20 minute procedure, with a 2 hour visit,
while my doctor, is having me stay overnight, says its a 2 hour procedure, and... ill be released the following day (wednesday) , maybe he just doesnt want there to be any complications.. anyway.. im nervous... i'll let you know how it goes.. and what is next,
i took alot of photos of my penis , just to have a reference of .. before and after.. ( just in case i want to look back and review)
thanks for having me here..

In an abundance of caution, I think most docs like to keep implantees overnight (23 hours, so it qualifies as "outpatient" for insurance purposes). This allows them to make sure all is well, remove the catheter, and make sure you are urinating. IMO this is very important - in the unlikely event that you're going to have an early complication it's much better to have it in the hospital.

23 hours inpatient is reasonable. And who's to say that a doctor doing a 2-hour procedure won't be good? My doctor usually takes 20 minutes for a normal implant procedure, but he's a high-volume "rock star." I went to Dr. Andrew Kramer in Baltimore due to his extremely great reputation and all his youtube videos. He does about 300 a year, so I felt confident going there. I was back in my hotel room by noon and took my own catheter out the next morning. It should be said, though, that Dr. Kramer is in frequent contact with you the whole time before, during and after the procedure. He even came to my hotel room to check me. Since returning home, we've exchanged numerous emails when I've had a concern, and he even emailed me once just to see how I was doing.

My local urologist did not tell me how long it would take him to do the procedure but he did say I'd lose and inch. This is not supposed to be the case with Dr. Kramer because he is aggressive enough in implanting the largest possible device you can take. I have heard other stories of guys who ended up with floppy heads and that would be because their surgeon didn't get the cylinders far enough into the glans.

You must have confidence in your surgeon. If you don't, then postpone the surgery and do more research. I've had vocal cord surgery where they put in implants too and I went to the top dog in the area, the Vanderbilt Voice Center.

I just believe on these specialized type surgeries it is best to go where the high volume surgeons are. My two cents.

Thank Guys for this information, i do have confidence in my Urologist, we have a history, kidneystones, and Hydrocele Surgery about 5 years ago.. thats a surgery, you dont wish on anyone unless you hate them... ugh, in comparison, i think this penile implant will
be alot less painful, only alot of brusing.. ( im hoping) ... my Urologist also says i shouldn't lose any length, that they will be "sizing" me in real time, with laser.. ?? Again, thanks.. and i will post again post op..

Hey Limpy,

This is the first I heard of laser sizing. That is interesting. Dr. Kramer used some sort of measuring tool he rammed up my chambers. You can see his videos on Youtube and there are lots. If you like, you can see my video and you will see him measure. (I'm a small guy). You will see how small at the beginning of the video and you will see the measured pumped up size during the surgery. The link is

Ah, thanks, i noticed your recent implant was just 12 days ago... how is that going, healing wise, my Doctor said.. i will have a follow up, in 10-14 days. ..after surgery, and than, 30 days later.. to start "cycling" the unit.. ill watch the video... after the surgery, i'm a bit squimish, and want to sleep well tonight, , but your saying they actually use a pump, to see your full size .. before they put in
the cylinders.. thats interesting.. and good.. because, im alot bigger when im erect, and swollen compared to my normal size when im
not arroused...
PS: blood pressure medication is the primary reason for my ED, i take metoporol twice a day, morning and night.. ive got 7 stents around my heart, from 3 diff angina attacks, ...

Hi, David - I'm scheduled for a hydrocelectomy on 11/30 - can you say more about the recovery from your hydrocele surgery?

My surgeon does the implants as an outpatient basis; however, they gave me the option to spend the night if I wanted saying the insurance would pay for it. I elected to spend the night and I am so glad that I did. I had a catheter and a drain bag both which were changed several times over night. The nurses were great and checked on me hourly making sure my pain was being managed well. Our original plan was to stay in a close by hotel, then coming back at 8:00 the next morning, but I felt it was a lot to put my wife through. I would definitely spend the night if it is offered to you.
Used Viagra & Cialis until lost vision in one eye due to AION, therefore can never use pills again, then tri-mix 1 1/2 years until unreliable. Implanted 9/20/22 at 77 years old by Dr. Yafi, UC Irvine. Married 55 years wife 76. 20cm Coloplast Titan.
