Should I wait?

Injections still work fine. I am using VED each day to maintain health...so what are the pros and cons of going for an implant now v. waiting 5-10 years? Seems most on this site are happy with there implant, but is that v. nothing (ie surgery) or is it better than injections that still work?

Welcome to the forum, ShouldIwait.

The conventional wisdom is that waiting is best.

Here is the reasoning:

The surgery to place an implant necessarily destroys (or irretrievably compromises to the practical definition of destroy) your erectile capacity. Surgeons often remove the corpus cavernosum tissue, or damage it in order to place the implant. So, if next week a better pill, other treatment or an actual cure comes along, it would be too late for the implanted man. So, if ANY TREATMENT works for you and your partner/wife, it is best to keep with that.

So, as my Dad used to ask me, "How's your love life?" If sex is satisfying, why go to the expense, risk, pain of an implant? (There is a small risk of the implant not working or making things worse and some men experience very little pain and some a lot, and depending on your insurance plan, more or less expense).

So, weigh the factors.

I went through the entire range of oral medications until they no longer worked. I tried sex using a vacuum device with constriction rings and found it unsatisfactory. I also tried sex without coitus (an option that works for some-cunnilingus and fellatio can be good). I skipped injections, though. My primary care physician gave me the go-ahead to see a urolgist/surgeon and we determined the implant was the best treatment option, as there was no hope for any other remedy.

I (and my girlfriend, too) are happy with the outcome, but there is no substitute for an erection that springs up on its own.

Thanks for the reply.

I see so many guys on here saying they wished that they had gotten the implant years earlier....How many of those guys tried Injections? Advantages over injections?

I think the answer is different when you're 60 than when you're 20. A point comes for all of us when nothing good happens while you're waiting. In my case if I'd gotten my implant when I needed it instead of waiting 5 years I might have gotten some use out of it.

I’m not a doctor. I was 63 when I got my implant. I started experiencing ED around 40. Viagra was not available then, but 2 years later I tried pills and then injections, both with extremely frustrating results. Until a few years ago I did not know implants existed.
Now that I have one, I’m having the best sex of my life! I have always suffered from extreme PE, that problem still exists, but doesn’t matter anymore. I fuck like the energizer bunny.
I would have got it done when I was 20.
Only my perspective.

Personally, I think you should wait. "if it ain't broke, dont fix it."

There is nothing like a warm, natural, blood-filled erection and you are still getting that
with the shots. A saline erection, IMO, is not quite the same.

I would think about an implant if the shots become ineffective or you have side effects that you
cant live with. Once you do it, you cant go back.

I like the reliability and convenience of my implant but I miss the warm, chubby glans I would get with trimix.
unfortunately, i could not orgasm with trimix and i would have a sore dick for a day afterwards. I had to schedule
sex on trimix's schedule, not mine.
That, and the fear of scar tissue pushed me into my decision.

I'm one step behind you. I need 50mg of Viagra to get a good erection. Taking pills and waiting makes spontaneity difficult. Also the wife no longer chases me around the house because she doesn't want to start anything if I don't have any medication in me. I feel feel broken and that has me struggling with depression. On that note I'd say look at two things. First, are you scarring up your penis with injections possibly risking Peyronies? Second, what is your social life like? Many of us have been married for 20 or 30 years so our wives are very patient and understanding. If you are dating you probably will want the convenience of obtaining a spontaneous erection again.
If you are married and there no negative side affects from injections I'd say stay with them. If you are dating and you are hurting your penis with injections (may need a doctor to help determine this) I'd say go for an implant.
Fifty-one years old. ED started at age forty. I took Cialis for eight years and used Trimix for almost three. Implanted 12/6/22 by Dr. Jonathan Clavell. AMS 700CX 21cm.

In my opinion before you get to injecting drugs into your penis go for the implant. I always hated using anything, with pills it was should I take one or not tonight wife? Injections were a damper on the whole experience. Get warmed up then have to jump out of bed to go get the drug, inject, then back to square one. All of the drugs I've used have done the same thing, work for a bit then become unreliable despite increasing dosages. Still have bruising from injecting Trimix and that has been more than 2 years ago. The implant is a big step, but it's been a game changer for me. After using all the drugs and not able to know if my erection was going to come up or not was depressing. Now I feel good about my sexuality, and I love pleasuring the wife.

ShouldIwait,
If injections are still working, you are better of with dem then with implant.
As others mentioned, Implant is last resort, one way street with no way back. Once you are implanted, you are implanted for life.
I had a prostate Ca and RP at age of 51. I went into surgery 100% potent, and after prostate removal, I was 100% impotent. Nothing worked for me. Trimix worked somewhat but it was extremely painful and I had pains and aches in my penis up to 24 after injecting. I could not perform longer then 5-10 minutes because of severe pain in my penis.
Since I had RP and exhausted all options using pills, VED, TRIMIX, BIMIX with no spontaneous sign of life in my penis, I decided on implant.
I also lost 2+ inches of length and I lost my orgasmic function - total anorgasmia.
Implant works , but your penis feels detached from your brain, just mechanical sex.
But still better then nothing.

I am 67 year old Male. I used Trimix four years with lots of success until I developed scarring on both sides. Scarring makes having an implant more difficult. I was implanted January 9, 2020 at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. I did not have any pain with my implant surgery and my doctor had me go home and heal six weeks after the surgery. Healing went great and I saw my doctor at the end of week six. He examined me and cleared me for sex. I did lose some size with implant surgery and hope to gain it back in time. I’ve only had my implant three months and do not regret my decision to have surgery. I was never told that injecting my penis with trimix could cause scarring. My Urologist confirmed that using the Trimix caused my scarring. If I had known about this I don’t think I would have ever started using trimix. I think I would have skipped the injections totally and gone straight to the implant. I agree that a natural erection is best but if you have to inject your penis to gain an erection then I would go straight to implant. I enjoyed the erections I got with Trimix and I had some really great times using it but regret ever using it.
66 yr old male married 36 yrs use trimix four yrs, cilais and Viagra. trimix work well developed scarring on both sides had implant 1/9/2020 at UT Med Ctr, Knoxville, TN Dr. John Lacy.
